Norton Security blocking μTorrent

For some reason Norton Security decided today to block the internet access for uTorrent. Initially, I didn't know what the problem was and why uTorrent was not able to connect to the internet. I finally though of Norton and found out that Program Control settings where automatically modified and utorrent.exe's trust was rated as 'poor' or 'untrustworthy'.

Why is that happening? This program was working perfectly for plenty of years and Norton didn't block it. Did it become untrustworthy all of a sudden? Where there any modifications on the latest version of uTorrent that made the software less secure or dangerous in any way?

Re: Norton Security blocking μTorrent

When you click "Trust Now" ....isn't there an option to change "Trust" ?
<< Trust Now option in the File Insight window to update the trust value of a file. You can also manually trust any well-known files. You can change the trust level of any file to User Trusted other than the files that are Norton Trusted or Good.>>   When you click Copy to Clipboard you'll see the SHA and may cross check with https://www.virustotal.com/
Or upload file to http://www.virscan.org/  It appears there was an update Dec29 http://www.freenew.net/windows/utorrent/68631.htm So, the attributes of the file may have changed.

Re: Norton Security blocking μTorrent

Hello

I Googled and it appears that various security programs have reported finding a Trojan in the .exe. This is probably why it's now rated as bad. Here is one of the links.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.17.3.50 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Re: Norton Security blocking μTorrent

Thanks for your replies guys.

I didn't want to check 'trust now' because of the suspicions Norton gave me.

I don't use uTorrent very often and apparently the problem was resolved automatically with the latest update of the program (3.4.2). Now Norton rates it as 'Good' in the 'Insight' scan results and as 'Unproven' in the program control section, but will allow it automatically to access the internet.

Glad to learn, tzon89, this means that NS has done its dirty work, blocking the fake uTorrent version.
