Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Hiya,

Norton Security works fine protecting my machine so far. But few days ago, it started to block a legitimate website, which belongs to a college that i work for (the website is: www . paaet . edu . kw). Whenever i try to access that website it directs me to "Norton ConnectSafe" which has the option of "I want to visit the site anyway". I am clicking on that option with no luck; it directs me to "http://search.dnsadvantage.com/main?"

How can i access the website? I would appreciate your help.

Thanks!

PS: I tried accessing the website with Firefox, Chrome and Explorer!

Hello ONe_775

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums

Since you work for the University, do you know the owner of the Website? They are really the ones who should take care of this.? I will submit this to the Safe Web Team and see if they will re-evaluate the website. Please stay tuned to this thread for a response from the Safe Web Team on Sunday night after midnight EST.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Thanks a lot for the reply!

It is unlikely that anyone from the College would even care (welcome to the Middle East). All what I need is to be able to access the site from home. Is there a way to disable Norton Security from my machine so I can access this particular site? I tried turning the off the software from the "Advanced" section (see attached image) but had no luck.

Thanks!

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Where are you trying to access the internet from? Your home, or some other location? If you are connecting from somewhere other than your home, you need to see if the location you are using is using the ConnectSafe DNS service.

Have you set up Norton ConnectSafe on your computer or in your router? ConnectSafe is different from the Norton Security anti malware software.   https://connectsafe.norton.com/

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Hi peterweb,

I dont use anything other than Norton Security. I downloaded the "Norton Toolbar" as an add-on for Firefox, but removed it shortly afterward.

To answer your question, I am trying to access the website from my house. I used to be able to access it fromm my house until two or three weeks ago.

Thanks.

Hello ONe_775

It looks like you are going to have to try and get the college to clean up their website if you want to continue to be able to connect to their website from your home. Sorry to be the bearer of  the bad news.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Have you cleared your browser history and cache?

EDIT

Open an elevated command prompt, then enter  nslookup. Then post the results here. This will show your DNS settings to see if you have ConnectSafe set up

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Hello One

Are you using the Core router? Even if ConnectSafe is set up, I think it will still show up as malicious since ConnectSafe uses Safe Web to test if malicious or not.. If you are using ConnectSafe ips, then you would have to change your ips to other free ones and then test to see if still malicious or not. You could try changing to  your ISP DNS servers instead of ConnectSafe servers. You can then check if it is still malicious or not by using this site.    https://safeweb.norton.com/

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Sorry I know it is getting ridiculous, but after deleting Norton Security, I deleted the history, cookies, catches etc from my FireFox, used my mobile connection rather than the house line/router .. but still no luck!!

I searched my windows for ConnectSafe ips and found nothing!

any suggestions? (PS I can access the website using my MacPro using the same router/internet provider)

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Can you post the results of the nslookup command I suggested above?

You can also try entering into the same command prompt     ipconfig /flushdns    then enter  the    nslookup   again.

Re: Norton Security blocks a legitimate website

Hi,

It would be useful if posters could state whether they're using a PC running Windows, or a Mac. ( with OS they're using)

Norton Security works fine on my 2015 MacBook Pro Retina running the latest software macOS High Sierra both on 10.13.1 & 10.13.2.

For other Mac users, I also advise to install Norton WiFi Privacy. Essential if you use non secure internet in cafe's, pubs etc

No problem. How did you remove ConnectSafe? From your computer or your router?
