Re: Norton Security false prompt

Hello BugLocker I take it you are using Edge as your default browser and its set as default in Windows? AND you have the Creators Update installed? Norton extension for Edge IDS is ONLY compatible with Windows 10 on Creators.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

What is Creators Update ? I have Windows 10 ver. 1703.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Buglocker version 1703 is the Creators Update for Windows 10 so you have the compatible update installed. Uninstall the extension you have installed for Edge and reboot the system. Then get the extension from the Microsoft store once again and reinstall. Remember...to reboot. Enable the extension and try to duplicate the issue.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

I think that is just because you have Edge set as your default browser and Norton is not fully compatible with Edge.  You could set another browser as default, or like me just ignore Norton.  You should see on the fly-out a "Do not show again" link.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Buglocker  Norton version 22.10.0.85 has been made available via Live Update. Run Live Updates and reboot each time a set is installed, running updates until none are available. Check in your Norton dashboard under "About" for version 22.10.0.85 as being installed.

Here is Norton compatibility with Windows 10 Creators Update version 1703 which you have installed.

I would uninstall the current Edge extension for Norton on your system and reboot. Download the fresh extension from the Microsoft Store and follow the setup in the above article.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Edge is a default browser for Windows, while it is much better than IE, it still is Windows browser, not recommended to use it for anything. I have had issues with Norton and other software regarding the browser, which discouraged me from using it. Chrome, Firefox or Opera are probably much better alternatives.

Hi.

A good program must have no bugs.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Indeed, unfortunately, writing software with 0 bugs on that scale, is I would say near impossible or just straight up impossible. Too much complexity, but you can get close to 0 bugs.

So , here we are to try it and make it better each time , bug by bug.

Edge is IE on the inside. Just with most the features missing or disabled. Edge = IE11.

Interesting, I found it a lot more responsive and less IE slow.... But I guess the massive UI overhaul does its job... I am not an expert at browsers, unfortunately.

They did a few minor tweaks to it, but most of the features that had me using IE have been removed (notable zones which help block ads, and the ad block feature built in). I've found IE to be very responsive in most cases. FYI edge doesn't work at all if you need to boot into safe mode.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Ok gents!! Although I am not an Edge fan I setup IDS on Edge with the current extension from the MS store. The issue at hand IS valid as I was prompted to sign in to Norton, which I did and get my 2nd authorization code. When done the IDS extension remained greyed out and the account login froze. All settings were reviewed as appropriate and a retry attempted a second time. NO JOY!!! I will try getting someone's attention about this further up the ladder for a review. And/or see if this is already known in another thread and in the works. Please see my screenshot. Cheers!!

The icon being grey is not the same as being greyed out. That is just the color Norton has chosen for the icon. What happens when you click on the icon?

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Peter, I was prompted to log in to Norton, at which time I did. When the login went to the Norton site in Edge the screenshot previously posted was the result. Frozen URL and NOT logging in even though, it sent me my code for 2 tier authentication on my account and the code was entered. Subsequent clicks on the "icon" for IDS results in the same. The IDS icon in Edge has been and remains "grey", having never changes its color. I hope that clears up the question of "What happens when you click on the icon?" Here are the steps followed.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Update: Opened Edge twice again, on the second try I "refreshed" the webpage and "log into your vault" appeared. Logged into my vault. Please see screenshot for the IDS icon color change. Green check in the lower right of the IDS icon :-) Note that Edge is NOT set as my default browser.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

Thanks for the info Soul.  I do not have Creators yet, (not really in a rush), so I have to rely on others for details on how the Edge browser extension works.

Re: Norton Security false prompt

I'll wait for Peters connections to shine, to gives us a full explanation on how IDS responds in Edge. Right now, It seems rather random whether it works.I wonder if it's based on the system configuration people are running?
