Norton Security found heuristic trojan after latest Rocket League Update

After this week's - latest - Rocket League (PC game) update (via Steam), Norton Security alarming a heuristic/generic trojan (Troja.Gen.8) and is removing the start-file 'rocketleague.exe'.

At my brother-in-law's PC (Norton Security, too) it is exactly the same situation.

...tryed it on my other PC (running Bitdefender) -> no virus found  ...took the file on USB stick to my work laptop (Kaspersky on it) -> no virus found

Ok. I wrote to Psyonix Support (they made Rocket League) to get support, but I am wondering, why only Norton Security is alarming and removing ... no other famous Internet Security.

I am pretty sure to have no malware (except unknown, or  from country agencies, ...who knows). It seems to be some behaviour of the update starting exe...

Symatec, please inform me, if you need something (copy of the file, ...) to investigate and solve. I would like to run the game without setting the file as an exeption. Thank you!

Trojan.Gen.[...]-family not heur detection and has extremely small FP-probability. However, the situation is strange. I think, that FP (use Virus total). Send to Symantec: https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

Re: Norton Security found heuristic trojan after latest Rocket League Update

Hi,

I scanned today the file (the same file; saved it on USB stick) again and was surprised:  no threat detected

But that you do not think I am only crazy. Fortunately I saved a screenshot of the past scan result (attached)

Could it be, that it was detection by Insight and not File Protection?

Thank you for screenshot. Trojan.Gen.8 precisely heur-detection. Strangely, Trojan.Gen and Trojan.Gen.2 (for example) not heur - generic signatures.

Trojan.Gen.8 - not Insight (Ws.Rep - by Insight), probably, Malheur technology (file heur).

Ok. Now I do not understand it anymore.

I wrote that I scanned it again with no threat anymore. But unfortunately it is only 1/2 correct.

Only at one of my two PC's (both Norton Security, both same version; on both I restored factory settings!) the Scan - of the same file (copied on my NAS) - is OK

On one PC Norton Security is telling that there is Trojan.Gen.8

The other PC it is telling that everything is ok with that file

Does anyone understand this?

I am asking myself: Am I in a wrong movie?

Re: Norton Security found heuristic trojan after latest Rocket League Update

Same thing happened me but I found a way to allow it to play. First go on steam and verify integrity of game files for rocket league. Then find the folder with rocket league exe. on it (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\rocketleague\Binaries\Win32). Right click and you should see an option for file insight. Click it and it should open up norton where you can mark the file as being trusted

Re: Norton Security found heuristic trojan after latest Rocket League Update

Thank you, Arnikstev. It is a solution ... but not for me. Like I told in my question, I do not like to set it as trusted.

Together with my brother-in-law (had same problem) I found a solution which worked for me. I deinstalled Norton Security - completely (with remove of any Norton folder under ProgramData) - and reinstalled it completely.

Now on both of my PC's the rocketleague.exe is not found as a threat anymore.

Thank you all for your replies

Re: Norton Security found heuristic trojan after latest Rocket League Update

Hello

Sometimes when a file is new, it gets deleted just because it's new and not enough people in the Norton Community have used the file. If you download the file a few times, the file gets used enough and then it is safe and ok again.

Thanks.
