Norton Security has been a huge disappointment for me

I use to love Norton's products. I just recently built a new computer with a ssd as a primary boot device. For a month or so my computer was running perfectly, but out of nowhere I noticed my computer was being bogged down a bit. I happened to look into the problem and found out that Norton Security automatically defragments your drives, and let me tell you something YOU DO NOT DEFRAGMENT SSD'S! Defragmenting ssd's lowers their lifespan and can actually completely ruin them.

I looked for a way to turn off this scheduled automatic defrag and there was absolutely no way to turn it off from what I can see. So I repeat myself, Norton I am highly disappointed in you.

Also I apologise if this is in the wrong section.

hi Charg3dAx1om

From the main Norton UI click on Settings when a new window will open.

From there click Tasks Scheduling where you can remove the cross from Disc Optimisation.

Then go to Administrative Settings and turn off the Idle Time Optimiser.

Doing both of the above will stop Norton from running Optimisation, which Norton does not carry out itself but controls the built-in Windows Optimisation Tool.

In addition, Windows knows you have an SSD and when Defrag is called it will not actually defrag, but will call the TRIM command if necessary.

Here is some information on the Windows defrag and SSDs.  http://www.hanselman.com/blog/TheRealAndCompleteStoryDoesWindowsDefragme...

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
