Norton Security slow to respond

Hi guys

I have an installation of Norton Security 22.9.0.71 on both my laptop and desktop PC.

On my desktop PC, when clicking on the application icon in the system tray, it takes over at least 30 for the main screen to appear. On the laptop, it is quicker, but still not instant.

Another possible issue is when I don't perform a scan for a while, the application icon on the taskbar changes to indicate action is required. This happens only on the laptop; it doesn't happen on the desktop installation.

Is there a problem with my desktop installation?

Thanks.

On the desktop, how quickly do other icons in the system tray react?

Does the overall performance of the desktop seem slower?

Is this a new installation of Norton Security? Did you have another security product installed before Norton? If so, you need to use the removal tool for that software to fully remove it so there are no conflicts with Norton.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

The icons on the desktop respond instantly.

The desktop install does seem sluggish.

The desktop installation was brand new and installed on a clean install of Windows 10 Anniversary Update.

Re: Norton Security slow to respond

Hi, thommo. Have you restarted ? Do you have Fast Start Up disabled ?

It's suggested that you do both, as some issues can easily be fixed in this way.

If not, it's possible the desktop install did not work well, so a Remove and Reinstall might be indicated to give you a clean install.

If used, please read the Before you begin note, and run Live Update after uintil no more are found, and then RESTART..

Let us know how you go.

Re: Norton Security slow to respond

Yes, I've already done both of those, but still slow. The installation seems to have gotten slower over time, as there was no issues with speed at the beginning. Strange, I've never experienced this with a Norton installation before.

I will reinstall and advise. I can't remember off the top of my head what I need to do re the license. Do I have to delete the key on the Norton Management site, or can I just leave it?

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security slow to respond

When you say the installation seems to have gotten slower, are you referring to Norton or the Windows installation? Windows itself can get slower over time. I used to do a completely fresh OS install every 6 months. I'm older and lazier now so I do not do it that regularly. Although I did have to do a reinstall of Win 10 to fix a very slow computer. That fixed it.

If you use the Remove and Reinstall tool linked by F 4 E  the licensing takes care of itself.

Re: Norton Security slow to respond

No, Windows is absolutely fine; it's just Norton Security that is slow. I always keep my Windows installations as clean as possible.

The link provided takes me to https://uk.norton.com/ - please link again.

This is somewhat off topic but still refers to Norton Security. Is the Norton Toolbar compatible with Firefox 64-bit?

It is indeed, but it was the http designation that the original link picked up, as per right clicking Copy Link Location.

Got it now, thanks.

I would like to upgrade to Firefox 64-bit. Is the Norton Toolbar compatible with Firefox 64-bit?

Re: Norton Security slow to respond

Reinstalling the product seems to have resolved the slowness issue.

Re: Norton Security slow to respond

Hello

I can tell you this much. If you have a 64 bit Windows install, Norton will install in 64 bit also. I don't use FF, so I don't know from experience if it is. Best off to wait for someone in the community who uses FF to find out for sure about FF 64 bit.

Thanks.
