Norton Security Suite Upgrade - New Remediation Task Wakes Computer
I recently upgraded my Norton Security Suite product to version 18.104.22.168 on and Windows 7 computer. Following the upgrade, the Norton product seems to be working normally and the main screen indicated that I am protected. But, following the update, I noticed that my computer kept waking up from sleep without my input.
I did some further research and determined that there was a new task listed in the Task Scheduler that was tied to something callled the Norton Anti-malware Migration Helper Tool. This task was set to run Norton Security Suite\Upgrade.exe /Upgrade/User_Login every 30 minutes and to even wake up the computer in order to be able to run the tool. Further, this task was listed in Task Scheduler Library in a new section entitled "Remediation" (Task Scheduler \Remediation\ AntimalwareMigration Task) The description of the Task in Task Scheduler is: "Symantec Antimalware Protection Migration helper. Migrates user settings and license information during the Norton product and the Windows OS upgrade".
I did some further searching on the web but did't find any references to the migration task or to the upgrade.exe file. Since my copy of Norton Security Suite seems to functioning normally (with the exception of Task Scheduler task) I am assuming that this task is some sort of left over detritus from the upgrade process but am wondering if I can just delete the task.
In the interim, I have disabled the task in Task Scheduler but would like to know if I can just delete the task or if I need to do something further.
Thanks for your help.
