Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

Not really looking for a solution just looking for confirmation.  Prior to the most recent Norton Security update to version 22.12.0.103 Norton Security ran as 'ns.exe. in the Task Manager.  Since the update it now shows as 'nortonsecurity.exe'.  Is this right?  If you Google 'ns.exe' there is information that confirms it is a norton file, however, nothing comes up under the new process 'nortonsecurity.exe' (I'm guessing because it so new).  Can someone confirm for me that this is the way it should be?  Thank you in advance.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

I ended up with version 22.12.0.103 before it was pulled the first time. I'm showing the same thing (nortonsecurity.exe) in Task Manager as well as in the "Usage Graph" in the Norton Security Performance section.

FWIW,

I am showing 2 'nortonsecurity.exe' (one System and one User on both WIN 10, running Norton Security Premium and WIN 7 running Comcast's Norton Security Suite.  Both have been updated to 22.12.0.103.

Hello

I can confirm the 2 nortonscurity.exe , one for system and 1 for the user's name, the same as yank.

Have a Nice Day and

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

Hello Soul

How come you have 4 processes showing? Is windows 10 the difference or is it TCPView vs. Task Manager? I have 22.12.0.103,  64 bit also. Who are the Users for yours?

I guess my dumbness is showing here, but if I don't ask, I'll never learn.  Who is smarter--One who asks the questions or one who asks, but never gets the answers?

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

floplot I am running 64bit Windows 10 and have always had 4 NSBU processes running. I'm the only user on the laptop with no other accounts on the system. 4 processes is normal for me.

Cheers

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

I count 5 instances on the TCP image.

My WIN 10 64 bit also has 5 instances of it.

I have the expected 2 in Task Manager.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

Indeed there are 5. Just checked again and 5 processes are still showing. Two instances are active on HTTPS, the others are "listening". Initially opening TCPView this time there were 7 instances running, then dropped back to 5.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

What you see in TCPView are the connections being made by processes running on the system.  A process can have more than one connection, which is the case in the screenshot.  If you look, you'll see that all five instances belong to just one process identified as PID (Process ID) 3536.  So only one Norton process is involved here, although there may be more running.

Indeed. As I said earlier this seems to be totally normal for my install since getting version 103.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

Hello

So the difference is Windows 10 and TCPView. By users I meant like Task Manager shows System and my name.  There are no other users on my computer either.

Thanks for the info all the Gurus that responded here in this thread.

Re: Norton Security Version 22.12.0.103

Thank you for the replies BuckV115 and yank.  You both answered my question.  I noticed once I put a check mark in beside 'Show Processes From All Users' on the Task Manager that I actually had two instances of the nortonsecurity.exe running, SYSTEM and USER.  Looks like all is well in that case and as everything is running as usual I am marking this thread as solved.  Thank you once again for your assistance.
