Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

As the subject says. That's the new message you see under "about:addons" when you have Firefox 40.0 installed.

It's no surprise given the release notes from Mozilla https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/40.0/releasenotes/ "Add-on extensions that are not signed by Mozilla will display a warning"

Screenshot;

This could cause a lot of unnecessary forum posts. Before you say it, Yes I have the toolbar patch for Firefox 40.0

pgriffin105 - are you talking about the Norton Toolbar browser add-on for FF40?

Run a manual LiveUpdate or if you have already, reboot so it can be applied.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hello

You may have to run Live Update a few times, then restart

Then run Live Update a few times and check to see if the Toolbar Browser Add-On has come thru, if not, restart again.

Please read the Announcement for Firefox 40 on top of the threads.

Thanks..

Pretty useless warning for us on the standalone ID Safe. Only version is still  2014.xxx   Still works with IE11 so not a huge deal but up'ed to Win10 so the added security of FF would be nice (ok more the IE phones home with helpful tips from Cortana ;p).

I have been continuously attempting to manually update NIST for FF 40.0 with NO SUCCESS for nearly an hour.  There is no way to enable the toolbar and I've restarted the browser multiple times as well as completely logged out of NIS and then logged back in with no changes or updates.  Any further recommendations?  Link?  I've read the posts in the links above but seeing no resolution/solution.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hi, redkazem. Mozilla has changed the rules, as they now require all extensions to be signed. There will be some delay before plugin developers are able to do this, but I understand the plugins will still work.

They just need to be verified.

Non-Mozilla-certified add-ons currently include warnings, and in the future, will be disabled by default.

Hi redkazem,

Did you run LiveUpdate and receive and APPLY the Norton Toolbar Browser add-on prior to upgrading to FF 40?  If you upgraded to FF 40 and have not received the NTB Browser add-on and can't receive it now the usual easiest fix is to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool . Just be sure to read the "Before you begin" prior to running it.  You will also have to run manual LiveUpdates after running it in order to bring the defs up to current.

Yes, I'm aware......and how does that make the warning useless....?
Isn't the IDSS an extension and as such the warning will serve the same function as built in Norton Toolbar caution warning.
Why is the warning for IDSS useless...?

Why is the warning for IDSS useless...?

Because the update does not apply to IDSS at this time.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hello Bobcat1

Please change Firefox settings so that it checks for updates but allows you to pick when to install. This is for future updates from Firefox. In other words, please wait for Norton Update for Norton Browser Toolbar Add-On and  Apply. Then update Firefox. This caution notice is a notice saying that the add-ons from Norton have not been verified by Firefox. You can still use the Firefox browser for now. All the functions should work. When they go to 41, the add-ons will be blocked if not pre-verified and that includes the Toolbar since that is an add-on according to Mozilla.

I hope I haven't confused you. Sorry if I have.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

@Mohan_G

My question now is what happens if Norton (or any other add-on) is pre-verified, the Toolbar Browser add-on is updated within the Norton products and Mozilla makes a last minute change to their update and it breaks the Norton Add-on?  Will it still be "verified" even though it won't work?

This has happened in the past with FF being changed (after Norton developed  new add-on to work with it) and then the add-on did not work.

Does the Norton Toolbar Browser add-on for each new version of FF need to be pre-verified?

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

I have current Norton Security and Toolbar versions and toolbar works, but when I look at the add on manager, I see Norton Toolbar cannot be verified.....

The problem I have been having is Firefox 40 keeps crashing and the suggest removing add ons.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

FLOPLOT, you haven't read my message correctly.

I have already gotten Norton update for Firefox and then I got FF 40. If you read the message about FF 40 and Norton, it says that Mozilla HASN"T VERIFIED YET NORTON TOOLBAR, until it does, the message will be that Norton toolbar is not verifiable. Norton toolbar works on my PC just fine. I am just waiting for the Mozilla get Norton toolbar verified.

Kudos0

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hello Bobcat1

OK,  then everything is ok for FF40. When Firefox 41 comes out, all the Norton Add-Ons will have to be verified first before the Norton Toolbar for FF41 will be able to be used. I gave you the procedure to follow for future use in case you weren't doing it in that order. You won't get a warning message, you will get a block if it hasn't been done yet. Hopefully for next time Norton and Mozilla will work together and there won't be any block then if verified soon enough.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hello

Maybe that means that FF41 will get the proceed with caution if the Add-Ons are not verified in time. I wonder what the time frame was when this new rule came out? What has to be done to the Add-Ons to pass this verification process? I would imagine that Mozilla has a long list of Add-Ons to go through.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your patience.

The Norton Toolbar is now Signed / Verified by Mozilla Firefox.

The Toolbar team has released a fix patch (2  patches) that resolves the "Not verified" caution message in the Firefox browser’s Norton Toolbar extension.

Please run LIVE Update until all the updates are installed.

Important Note: The patch has been posted to Live Update server as two parts which means you will be receiving two patches when you run Live Update. The issue will be fixed only when the 2nd patch is downloaded and applied.

First patch does not require any user action but the Second patch needs to be applied like we do for the regular firefox patches.

You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times (If required) before your product is completely updated to the latest version. It will appear in the LiveUpdate history as Norton Browser Toolbar Add-on.

Norton Toolbar: 2015.5.2.24

Please let us know if this patch fixes the issue.

It doesn't work for IDSS.   Why can't Norton post the most current version of IDSS for download.   I say this because the "Live Update" does not appear to work for IDSS.   It seems to get the data files but it doesn't get the patches.

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

Hi glenbo,

Now you know what the Comcast Norton Security Suite users go through.  We finally received the update to version 22 when it hit version 22.5.2.15, we missed (thank God) the hassle with 22.124.   Of course we understand that when we get Norton as part of our Comcast service (Comcast claims free) we need to wait sometimes for updates and I guess since IDSS is free to non-Norton users, then those retail (full suite users)who pay should get it first.

At present the most current version of IDSS is posted - as the IDSS download.  It just so happens that IDSS has not been updated yet to the same "latest" version that the retail users have.  Now if you were on Norton 2013 and had paid for it, I may show more compassion for your feelings.

Kudos0

Re: Norton Toolbar could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution.

I'm on NIS 2014 and a paying customer and there still isn't a verification update for the FF 40 toolbar.  The toolbar works, but I still get the verification warning on V21 as Norton has only updated V22.  I do not yet want to update, and V21 is still supposed to be supported.  The rumor is that FF 41 will not show just a warning but block unsigned extensions.  I do hope there is a V21 patch in the works ....
