Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

I just noticed that my Noron Toolbar extensions in Firefox are gone. They were there this morning. I have rebooted. I have done nothing else today. They are not there, not disabled, Not there. What has Norton changed. And what can I do to get it back. I have a good number of logins saved there and need it back ASAP.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

Hi,

Open Firefox and right click the area above the address bar - is Norton Toolbar there?  Does it have a check mark?  If no check mark, put one there and restart FF.

Let us know how you get on.

Ther extensions are gone! Nothing to click on. there in the morning , gone in the afternoon. uninstalled Norton 360, (yes I used the Norton removal tool) reinstalled. Not there. Still works in IE8. Firefox 19.0.2, Norton 20.3.0.36, Win XP. They are not listed in The Addons.

So that is the extent of the help around here any more. try the obvious. I would like to know what is going on, and why my Toolbar quit working. Any help here?

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

I'm sorry I haven't got back sooner.  It seems quite strange for the extensions to just disappear.

You've already tried uninstalling / reinstalling N360, so my last suggests are -

  • Reset Firefox - Click the orange FF button > Help > Troubleshooting Information (While you're there, check if the Norton extensions are listed under Extensions) > Reset Firefox.  Check in add-ons Extensions and see if the Norton extensions are there.  If there, enable and restart FF.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose Firefox Problems
  • Uninstall Firefox and reinstall.  To get a clean installation you made need to Remove user data and settings .

If this doesn't work I'm out of ideas.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks,

Dave

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

OK Here's the gig. I completely uninstalled Firefox, Lost 5 years worth of info. Started a new one. Still no Toolbar. Uninstalled Norton 360 using the Norton Removal tool. Downloaded and installed the latest 360. Did all of the Live updates which included the Toolbar for Firefox. Rebooted and there is no Norton Toolbar Extensions listed in Firefox. It functions in IE 8. I tried to login to the tool bar and it always takes me to the silly cloud thing. I logged in (Local)from IE and imported my saved Logins. It works fine. Funny thing when I was installing the new version of Norton It said it was now incompatible with MalwareBytes, I had to uninstall it. YOU guys are always suggesting us to use MalwareBytes in addition to SuperAnti Spyware to augment Norton. Nice of you to tell us it is now not compatible. Thanx. So I have no idea why the toolbar doesn't show up in Firefox 19.0.2. Where are the toolbar files located maybe I can manually install them. I have no other extensions installed. I will now try to reconfigure My Firefox back to the original. Are there any other plugins that interfere with Norton that you haven't told us about? I would really like to get my hundred or so logins back. Any body there know anything about Norton 360 Toolbars?

You do realise I am just a Norton user and I volunteer to help here?  The only Symantec Employees are those with their names in bold red font.

There is a thread in the NIS / NAV board about MBAM being incompatible.  Most that have received that notice chose to "Skip" uninstalling MBAM.  I still have it installed and have no problems.

I have no idea why your Toolbar has disappeared from Firefox, sorry.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

 Hi notusedupyet,

I may or may not be able to help you as I do not have N 360 20.3.0.36 installed on any of my systems.  I do have Norton Security suite insatlled on a WIn 7 system - but it has not been updated to 20.3.0.36 yet, so it will not be current for the engine number, but the <min> and <max> numbers would be correct s it is updated for FF19.0.2.

In a nutshell, the <min/max> numbers in the rdf file should be the oldest supported version of FF (currently 17) and the newest supported version of FF (currently 19).

That said I do have NIS v 20.3.0.36 installed on a Win 7 system and I followed the paths I used in the post you referenced and found the information I was seeking.  Mine match up with the extention ini's and the version number found close to the beginning of the referenced post.

In my case the version is 20.2.1.22 for my NIS and the ini's obviously match that.

My install.rdf in coFFPlgn folder for NIS 20.3.0.36 on Win 7:

My extentions.ini in default %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles for NIS 20.3.0.36 on Win 7

I hope this information is of some assistance to you, if you have questions, please ask.

Perhaps someone with N 360 20.3.0.36 installed and working correctly could supply verification for the number you are seeking.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

The Min/Max in this folder C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_20.3.0.36\coFFPlgn is 17 to 19*, the min/max in this one C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_20.3.0.36\IPSFFPlgn, is 3.0 to 20.*. The Norton Extensions are not listed in the Firefox profile Extension.ini. File. Is there a way to copy the extensions into the Firefox profile manually?

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

It appears the coFFPlgn and the IPSFFPlgn are correct - or at least identical to mine.

Perhaps you can try the following before we try to add the extentions in manually:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/931019#answer-348058

If no joy, then we'll go for the manual insertion.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

This is a new, clean install of Firefox, and Norton. I would rather try doing it manually Instead of redoing my Firefox from scratch.  I have deleted and reinstalled both FF and Norton twice now, in both orders. I have no idea why it failed to install the Toolbar.

OK I did try renaming the "Extension" files in my profile. The list in the link you sent me is this,

  • extensions.cache
  • extensions.ini
  • extensions.rdf
  • extensions.sqlite
  • extensions.sqlite-journal

The files available in my profile are only these"extensions.ini, extensions.log,extensions.sqlite. I reopened firefox and was asked to reinstall all of the existing extensions, Norton was not amoung them.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

Yes, those are the same files I also have on my system - so what you did was OK - but apparently has not worked.

Please go to C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_20.x.x.x

N360_20.x.x.x, x is the version number and the number that you will need to make sure is used in your extentions.  At present mine is N360_20.1.0.24.  Your's may be different dependent on where and when you got the download.  Please make note of that number.

If I understand correctly there is nothing under [ExtensionDirs]? The easiest way to get to that is to Click on Start > Run > type in %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and select OK.  You will then see the "randon value default" and opeing this folder and then opening extentions.ini with notepad will provide the information you are seeking.

Mine shows the following:

[ExtensionDirs]

Extension0=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_20.2.1.22\coFFPlgn

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\NIS_20.2.1.22\IPSFFPlgn

[ThemeDirs]

Extension0=C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{972ce4c6-7e08-4474-a285-3208198ce6fd}

Although my engine numbers are different, you should still have the same two extentions in ExtentionDirs.  The engine numbers must match the engine number that you found above(20.X.X.X)  In other words, you should have the following under  ExtentionDirs.  Note I am using my version number and you should use the one you found above.

 .

Extension0=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_20.1.0.24\IPSFFPlgn.

Extension1=C:\ProgramData\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_20.1.0.24\coFFPlgn.

Once you navigate to the extention.ini folder as described above, open with notepad, then you need to add the above entries (using the version number you noted in the first step here),I believe you need to Save it - it's been awhile since I did this and then restart your system and see if the Norton Toolbar Extention is present in FF.

Hope that is clear, if not please ask questions before doing it.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

That is basically what I was going to try, just waiting to see if that was all I needed to do. I can get to the Extension .ini file no problem. and I know where the Norton extensions are. Does it matter what the extension number is? ie-Extension0=, or Extension1=. I have several extensions listed, do I just make the Norton ones the next in sequence or do I have to change them all to make Nortons number 0 and 1?

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

I hate to admit it, but I have no idea - I would suggest just adding them in sequence to start with.

I actually only use FF to aid in troubleshooting on this forum and do not have any other add-ons enabled besides the 2 from Norton.

Update- OK Yank, The Toolbars are showing up in all of my Firefox Profiles. (x3) And it's working , filling in Logins. and contains all of my latest logins. But when I look at Tools/Addons/Extensions in FF they are not listed. The files are in the extensions.ini file, but not in the Extensions Folder in the FF Profile. I tried to copy the File into the folder but it would not let me copy "SRTSP" files. It say unable to copy. Any ideas, where they need to be to show up in the addons? I have rebooted.

Once again, if you go back to the other post you referenced you will see the same thing occurred - everything worked - but the Add-ons were still missing.  I never pursued it any farther, nor did the OP in the other thread.  Now that it has occurred again I guess I'll have to try to figyure it out or ask Norton for support.

I am curious if this all will clear up and the add-ons will appear wiht the next FF update to version 20??

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

I wondered if the next update will fix it also. All of the other extensions with their associated install.rdf files are located in the Profile/Extension folder. Some are in folders with the long bracketed alpha numeric strings others are bracketed .xpi files and others are only .xpi files. I think there has to be something from Norton in that folder. I tried copying the Plgn folders there but nothing. I wish I had an old profile available that has the Norton Folders in it. But when I reset it they were already gone. Do you have contact with someone knowledgeable about this  from Norton? I see this guy has the same problem. http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Toolbar-Norton-Identity/Norton-Toolbar-and-Norton-Vulnerability-Protection-Vanished/td-p/779174/highlight/true/page/2 Hopefully we could get an answer from Norton. I too am getting on in years:) I will await with bated breath their response. It just seems as though the {} string is what is supposed to be in the Profile extensions folder. It would point to the location of the files and the install.rdf files. Those strings are not on my computer. Hopefully they are available to be downloaded somewhere, and not created when Norton loads. Thank you for all of your help Yank

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

@ Yank. Testerday I noticed that Norton had automatically done an update that rrequired a reboot. I rebooted and the version in the .rdf files had changed to the new version. This was before it was posted here. I saw in one of your previous threads something about removing entries in the device manager. So I completely removed Norton, removed the device manager entries, reinstalled Norton. Still No Joy. I have the tool bars and they are functional, yet not listed in Firefox addons. Firefox has yet to release their update, v 20 to me. I did notice that the Bracketed strings- {BBDA0591-3099-440a-AA10-41764D9DB4DB} IPSFFPlgn, and  {2D3F3651-74B9-4795-BDEC-6DA2F431CB62} coFFPlgn listed in the registry key I showed you, are the ones listed in the .rdf files. I am convinced these are what is required to be in the Firefox Profile/extension folders as they point to the location of the toolbar. .rdf files. Where does one get these to install manually in the extension folders?

I can not seem to locate your Registry entries on my Win 7 system??

BTW, the contact at Norton did receive my PM - am awaiting a response.

Best thing I can suggest at present is wait until the FF v20 update comes down and see what happens andhope we heard from Norton.

Firefox added the extensions, they are now listed in the addons , BUT the toolbar is gone. SHEEESH. The extension.ini file contains the strings but not the locations we previously installed in it. It seems I can have one or the other but not both. Hopefully Norton can show us the way...

Just some addtional information - coFFPLgn after the update Patch for NTB FF Add-ons:

You will notice it references the {} info you had in yor registry entries.  The NTB Version has updated and the Min > Max has changed to 18 and 20 (thus FF 17 is no longer supported.

Also this is the IPSFFPLgn file after the Patch update: Once again the {} info matches your registry entry, the NVP version has been updated and the Min> Max remained at 3, but the upper number changed to 20.

Re: Norton Toolbar Extensions in Firefox Gone.

Yeees, I even disabled them then renabled them. We're  getting closer.

Those registry entries are the folder names I used to creat the extension folders. When I started FF after copying them , FF came up with the Install Addon box, I checked yes and it loaded them. When I checked the extension.ini file this-Extension9=C:\Documents and Settings\Greg\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ait4rmt1.AA Stuff\extensions\{2D3F3651-74B9-4795-BDEC-6DA2F431CB62} - was in place of the location we had copied earlier that made the toolbar work. I tried adding the location strings-C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Norton\{0C55C096-0F1D-4F28-AAA2-85EF591126E7}\N360_20.3.0.36\coFFPlgn in addition to the {} folders and FF wouldn't open.  I am running several profiles, the one with the {} shows the addons in the list (and they are enabled) and the other with the location show the actual toolbar and is not listed.
