Norton Toolbar popup wont' go away

I'm glad that I decided to go with the free trial of Norton Security, because now I know it's not for me.

I am very annoyed by the popup message that offers to install the Norton toolbar.  I actually LIKE the toolbar, and I have responded YES to the popup many, many, many times.  Yet still it keeps asking me whether to install the thing.  I'm tired of answering the same question over and over again.  I've had it.

Hello TwoTents

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Are you using Win 8/8.1? If so, please disable Fast Startup. Norton needs it disabled so that Norton and many other programs work properly. Did you thoroughly remove your previous security program with the removal from the other vendor? Did you run Live Update several times until the patches came thru for the toolbars and reboot and run it again to make sure you received all the updates and reboot one final time. Thanks.

Re: Norton Toolbar popup wont' go away

BJM -  The "which browser" question doesn't actually make sense here.  The Norton Security popup does not occur in the context of a browser; it simply shows up in Windows.  As it happens, I have at least three browsers installed on my system (IE, Chrome, Firefox); and I use Firefox the most.  But again, the popup occurs independently of running a browser.

Floplot - I am using Windows 7.  Live Updates occur on a regular basis.  I had no previous security tool other than Norton 360.

Well, even though you've installed Norton Security.  Perhaps you have not cycled all browsers.
Um, IE and FF will install by Norton.  Chrome has to install Norton Toolbar by Chrome web-store..

Check browsers.  If you find Norton Toolbar.  Enable.  Cycle browser.  Reboot.  Open browser > Disable Toolbar > Cycle browser > Reboot.
No more pop-up.
Norton Security wants all protection enabled.  That makes Norton Security happy.  So, make Norton Security happy.  Then do what you want.

Hello

Make sure you have the latest toolbars enabled for each browser. Make sure you have turned off Windows password manager. Go over the options in Norton Security also. Although you get live updates regularly, the patches for the toolbars need to be applied, so they sometimes do get stuck. If you don't have the latest toolbars, then you will have to run live update a few times and reboot and repeat that cycle. I have the toolbar enabled for IE11 although I don't really use it.
