Norton toolbar problem

Hi

My Norton toolbar disappeared 2 days ago. In an effort to restore it, I uninstalled and reinstalled Norton Security. I'm using Windows Vista 64 and Google Chrome.

When I open Norton Security now, it shows that I have to configure the Norton Toolbar but when I click on "configure" it takes me to the Norton Identity Safe page which shows that the toolbar is installed, so doesn't let me configure anything.

I've followed the instructions on the Norton website and still have a problem.

In addition, my password autofill is no longer working after I sign in to Identity Safe.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Gordon

Re: Norton toolbar problem

Hi Gordon:

I flagged this thread yesterday and asked the forum moderators to have it moved to the Norton Toolbar | Norton Identity Safe board for better exposure but that apparently never happened.

I don't use Google Chrome or Norton Identity Safe but while you're waiting for a response from someone familiar with these software programs please review the following support articles to see if there's any helpful information about the new Norton Security Toolbar v2018.13.2.22 for Chrome (released 08-Mar-2018) and re-designed Norton Identity Safe v5.2.2.17 for Chrome (released 13-Mar-2018).

Recover Missing Norton Security Toolbar on Google Chrome
Compatibility of Norton Identity Safe with Google Chrome

That second support article notes that "Fill Assistant from the Norton Security Toolbar is not available in the new Chrome extension. We're working on new ways of quickly accessing your vault information for all types of webpage forms."

Google discontinued support for Chrome on the Win XP and Vista platforms in April 2016 (see Google's official announcement <here>) so if you're still using Chrome v49 on your 64-bit Vista SP2 computer that might also affect the functionality of the new Norton browser extensions.  The only major browser that is fully supported on Win XP SP3 and Vista SP2 is Mozilla's Firefox ESR (extended support release) and Mozilla announced in the blog entry Update on Firefox Support for Windows XP and Vista that Firefox ESR v52.x will be fully supported on these older platforms until June 2018.

Hi yank:

Thanks for bringing that change to the system requirements to my attention.  I contacted Norton customer support via Live Chat at https://www.norton.com/chat today and there seems to be some confusion over whether that policy change applies to Vista SP1 and Vista SP2 or just the original Vista (i.e., without the service packs).  I've started a new thread at Revised System Requirements for Vista SP2 (and Win XP SP3)? to see if someone from Symantec can clarify.

Re: Norton toolbar problem

Hi Imacri and Yank

My apologies for taking so long to respond. Thanks very much for the links and for your help.

I'm just puzzled as to why everything had been working fine until 2 weeks ago but we know that systems sometimes fail for no reason!

Thanks again.

Hi GordonK:

Further to yank's comment <here> about recent changes to the system requirements posted on the Norton support site, please see Norton employee Gayathri_R's announcement Norton Maintenance Mode for Windows XP and Windows Vista that was pinned at the top of the NS/NSBU and NIS/NAV/N360 boards yesterday (28-Mar-2018).
