Norton toolbar says vault closed all the time but it's not

So  norton security tool bar version number  2015.5.6.94 keeps saying my vault is closed all the time, i at first thought it was google chrome because i was using the beta version of chrome but i also checked it with the latest version of chrome and it does the same thing. It has been doing this since the update, i have been putting up with it until it decided to not ask me to save a password. i have reinstalled it to no avail it still says closed. the funny thing is it  still auto fills my passwords, just does not ask to save them. IF i close out of chrome and reopen it. It will be fine again for about 5 mins and then be right back to vault is closed status but again its open, i never close it as i use it all the time. What can i do to ratify the situation. Also not sure if it makes any difference with the toolbar but i'm on the comcast version of norton.

Hello AnthonyB.

Have you tried uninstalling NSS with the Norton Removal Tool, restart and then installing it again by using www.norton.com/latestnss ? Please remember to run Live Update until no more updates and then restart one more time.Please have your key handy.

Yes i have allready done this no go first thing i thought of doing was that, it seems to only be the toolbar that is malfunctioning here kind of strange i think.

Hi AnthonyB.

As a test, could you try using Identity Safe with Internet explorer as your browser.

Also what is your operating system and when you uninstalled NSs did you elect to keep the Identity Safe?

windows 10 pro 64 bit  when i uninstalled it i took it all with it was a pain as i had to redo all passwords but thats ok, also it seems to be so far just a issue with chrome, maybe because i used the beta of chrome at one time, maybe it broke it. but i switched back to the regular one and it was doing same thing so i don't no, so i went back to the beta version today to see if its doing it and yes same issue. not sure what is going on. But even though it says closed its filling in passwords like normale just does not ask me to save them so wired.

windows 10 64 bit  Norton comcast version 22.6.0.142 all pateches in place and updates. windows fully updated google chrome 32 bit latest version, only doing it in google chrome, if i close out of chrome reopen it's there and stays open for approximate 1 hour the vault does.  then it goes back to saying closed, the norton extension versions are norton safe search default for chrome version  1.1.0  norton security toolbar version  2015.5.6.94, norton identity safe version 1.0.5. all i think are the latest versions of the applications. this is a very frustrating issue as i rely on this extension to keep track of my various log in and stuff. it works fine despite being closed status as to the point of filling in passwords but will not save them at all, i have to manually input them in the application it use to ask me to save all of it appears broken.

The first pic is after google chrome has been overnight and reopened it shows closed status, the second picture is after i right clicked the google icon in taskbar and closed the application it is showing as open, after a while of browsing it goes back to closed status

Hi Anthony B,

Identity Safe is part of the Norton Security Suite and is not   should not be listed as a separate entity.  You mentioned the "norton identity safe version 1.0.5." - where are you seeing this information for the version 1.0.5 of Identity Safe?

Is it on a screen similar to this but with another Tab (ABOUT) added?

If so that is the ID Settings fro the Stand Alone Identity Safe - which should be listed as a separate entry in Program and Features as an install program.

Let us know if this is where you are getting the  ID Safe version number.

So from your  links, it appears to me that AnthonyB has in fact somehow managed to get the Stand Alone ID Safe program installed along with the Comcast NSS program (that contains it's own ID safe)  - NSS is only capable of supporting a Local Vault and not a Cloud Vault. 

So the it appears to me the Local Vault is in fact opened and working filling in passwords, while the IDSS (Standalone) vault is closed?

Strange - perhaps best to wait on AnthonyB to tell us what his Programs and Features show for Norton..

hi no no getting the version numbers from extensions added to google chrome here is a picture of it. nothing else installed but norton and the extensions it has installed.

Chrome webstore links Permalink are from my Chrome with my Local Vault with my Norton Security.   Norton extensions afaik come by way of Chrome Web Store.  Thanks

yes that is correct when i installed norton and opened chrome it prompted me to get my toolbar back i clicked yes and have had it ever since. why as to now it has malfunctioned is beyond me.

I'd call it the ID Safe Extension Version  in lieu of ID Safe Version, but thanks for explaining it to a non-Chrome user.

Hi..I'm having exactly the same issues as AnthonyB. Likewise I have uninstalled and reinstalled a number of times to fix it to no avail. I am on Windows 10 and also using Chrome.

I've given up on Chrome and gone back to using Explorer until this is sorted. Seems fine on Explorer.

I'm continuing to be frustrated with the same issue. 
WIN 10 - Chrome Version 55.0.2883.87 m (64-bit) - Norton Security Version 22.8.1.14 - Toolbar Extension 2016.0.2.3 - Id Safe Extension 1.0.5

I can get the bar to display OPEN if I go to the extensions page, disable toolbar, and re-enable toolbar. But only for a short time.

While displaying CLOSED (but actually Open), it doesn't save changes or new pw. It also doesn't give you choices when you have multiple accounts. You can look them up and set the one you want to be the latest, but that is a cumbersome workaround.

Something keeps setting the toolbar to show CLOSED, even if it is Open, and all the cool features also act as if it is closed. The only thing that works is that it fills in the last used account and pw.

I am very annoyed that there has been no response at all from Norton on this issue. Maybe not the right way to address the problem but I have moved back to IE as my default browser (from Chrome) and the issue does not appear here. Maybe try that until Norton pulls its finger out.

I would be very interested in knowing if Identity Safe works properly for anyone using Chrome, but I suppose if there are any they won't be looking at this thread.

Of course, the real solution would be for Norton to provide a workable extension for Edge.  Anyone know why they haven't?

I have a lot of extensions running.

I disabled them all and the vault stayed open  when I shut the browser and re-opened it.

It had been displaying that the "vault is closed" on restarting the browser when in fact it is open.

I re-enabled all the extensions one by one and the vault was ok except with Feedly v35.

Each time this was re-enabled the problem reappeared.

This ext also runs at start up even when chrome is not open.

I shall leave Feedly disabled and monitor things to see if the vault stays open.

It has been 4 days since I disabled Feedly v35 and all is ok still.
"Vault is open" is displayed all the time it is open regardless of how many times I close and re-open the browser.

I have been trying to observe the behavior of Identity Safe for several days.  So far I can verify that the vault open  notification in the toolbar does say "vault is open" at all times.  However, the extension does not seem to preserve all functions of the feature.  It does not ask for whether you want to save a new password at appropriate times.  Automatic fill of passwords seems to work correctly, but automatic fill of forms does not.  I can't be positive about any of my observations.

Yes but not everyone has this extension i don't and mine is closed all the time regardless of my extensions, i disabled all of them and still have the issue.

I have been having this same issue in Chrome; vault reads closed in toolbar when actually open, stopped saving passwords and now it won't even fill in passwords. All it is good for is for me to view my login information and password so I can manually enter the information. The products seem to be getting worse and worse and this thread after OVER A YEAR still has NO SOLUTION! Time to find a different company!

Has this problem been solved ?
I had the same issue, but it has just been solved so I thought it might be worth sharing.
1. Go to Setting in Chrome
2. Select "Sync".  (I am using Japanese version so I am guessing English UI)
3. Turn off "Sync all" and "Extensions".
That's it.

Has this issue been solved? Any updates on it.? Customers still seem to have this issue for long time, since April.2016. It's been like a year and a 1/3. I think someone needs a push to get this solved.

with firmest regrets as this issue has not been solved and i feel it never will be, i left my Norton vault and the Norton extension and moved on to lastpass. if this issue is ever solved i will put the extension back on, but i could not live with a broken extension and happening to open my vault all the time to fill in a password, got quit annoying. i find it a bit ridiculous that this issue after me sending in logs has not been solved, i grow tired of the excuses made for them not even looking at my logs and the excuses of they got busy, i'm sorry busy after a year and 1/3 that is absurd .

it's been another month and this has not been fixed at all the toolbar is useless i don't even have access to norton safe search as it's udderly broken does not even hook back into norton at all, i did away with my ID vault as it was broken, and this issue has yet to be fixed, it's almost been another year, and this still has gone on, despite my logs i have sent in yet another feature was fixed rather quickly the norton peak issue. how hard is it to fix a toolbar for crying out loud, now i had to uninstall the whole thing ats its broken and just does nothing, no need to have a toolbar that is udderly broken, so i disabled all of the extensions.   This has gone on long enough why is this issue beeing udderly ignored and not fixed.
