Norton update or scam?

A few minutes ago a small window opened on my laptop screen, apparently a message from Norton Security, saying that an update was available and that I needed to grant additional permissions in order to receive the update. The permissions listed were: send data to retail.onlinesbi.com (listed 3 times) and "12 other permissions" that weren't identified. The only available responses were "update" and "cancel".  I elected to cancel, and went looking for what the heck "retail.onlinesbi.com" was - and it turns out to be a bank in India. Then I opened Norton Security and checked for updates and there were no updates. I then checked the NS history and found a couple of recent "blocked access" notices that indicated no further action was needed.  So I guess NS protected me from something - but what? Anyone see anything similar?

Re: Norton update or scam?

Same thing here. It was an update to the IDSafe extension for Firefox. I deleted the extension in Firefox and installed the new IDSafe extension from Firefox site and got this notice which is legit.

This new extension has some bugs.

Re: Norton update or scam?

Hello

Is this information requested by Mozilla with their latest update? I don't use Firefox so I don't know too much about it.

Thanks.

Success always occurs in private and failure in full view. Windows 10 Pro 64 bit Norton Core Security Plus 22.18.0.213 Core Firmware 282 I E 11 Chrome latest version.

Re: Norton update or scam?

Thanks for that response! The notification I received looks similar in format to the image you posted of the Identity Safe (except for the content) so it was likely a Firefox notification and not a virus, which makes me feel better. I don't yet use Identity Safe but will keep your post in mind when/if I do. Thanks again.

Re: Norton update or scam?

Thanks, flopot. Based on the reply from PhoneMan I think the notification I received was from Firefox and not a virus or phishing attempt. I'm relatively new to Mozilla so still learning the ropes.  Appreciate your response!

Re: Norton update or scam?

New version has problems, I have removed it and installed older version 2.1.0.24 and works great.
