Norton Vulnerability Protection still not compatible with IE11 on Windows 8.1

I am running Windows 8.1 RTM and NIS 2014. Just updated to ver 21.1.0.18 that was released today and still problems with IE11 add-ons and Enhanced Protection Mode.

Norton Toolbar 2014.6.0.27 works OK

Norton Identity Protection 2014.6.0.27 works OK

Norton Vulnerability Protection 12.0.1.0 is not compatible.

Turned off EPM and all work fine. Is this the current version of NVP as it is dated Sept 28?

Hi Jim,

Yes it is. We're working to resolve the Norton Vulnerability Protection incompatibility, but we don't have a timeframe available for when this will be fixed. I'll keep you up-to-date on the progress with this issue.

@PhoneMan

Are you running 64 bit Windows 8? I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit. I have the exact same issue. I know the cause now thanks to Yank and your post.

I wonder why it's so difficult to make NVP compatible with IE 11 which I think is considered 64 bit IE when run in Enhanced Protection Mode. Generally someone will post and say "not many people are using 64 bit web browsers" but that's just a sad excuse.

Quick FYI -

IE's Enhanced Protected Mode is also a settable option on 32Bit Windows (systems with actual 32Bit processors) both in IE10 and IE11.

Re: Norton Vulnerability Protection still not compatible with IE11 on Windows 8.1

This is still a problem with the full release version of Win 8.1, glad Norton are aware of it, my workaround was to look under IE>tools>internet options>Advanced & untick both 'enable 64bit processes for enhanced protected mode' & 'enable enhanced protected mode', afterwards I could enable Norton vunerability protection (as well as Realplayer's video downloader & other add-ons/extentions which were reported as incompatible), in my case unticking just the first (enable 64bit) didn't make any difference neither did leaving that ticked & unticking just 'enable enhanced protection'.

Has there been any word on an official fix for this yet? Was completely unaware of this issue until recently, but have now at least got this workaround up & running.

Hi max424, see Tony Weiss' post above.  Symantec is aware of the problem, and is working on a fix. There is no time scale, as yet.

Seems pretty crazy that it's now been nearly a month since they were aware of the issue and still have not resolved it.

Hi,

It won't be easy as NIS or N360 are 32-bit applications and merge a 32-bit app with 64-bit add-ons can be very challenging.

I believe it would be much easier to have 2 versions of Norton products x86 & x64 and the installer should install the appropriate product according to the OS.

The same should apply for other apps which also have IE add-ons.

Just an opinion.

Some changes have been rolled out during Microsoft patch Tuesday last week. Enhanced Protection mode will not be enabled by default, which means Norton Vulnerability Protection should be showing as "Compatible" with IE11 on Win 8.1 after applying the latest Microsoft patches. Thanks.

after upgrade to latest version and updated everything, the norton toolbar and identity protection are now 32 and 64 bit and compatible with ie 11 enhanced protected mode. but vunlnerability protection still remains 32bit and not compatible with ie 11 epm.

do you have plan to make vunnlnerability protection compatible with ie 11 epm?

Just an FYI

I am running Win 8.1 64bit full version fresh install. I am running N360 version 21.1.0.18 this is a fresh install, Internet Protected Mode is checked, Norton Tool Bar, Norton Identity Protection and Norton Vulnerability Protection are enabled. All seems to be working properly. The Norton Vulnerability Protection use to be incompatible then I noticed one day the it was marked as disable so I enabled it and all seems to be working. Knock on wood.

I'm sure and I just doubled check to make sure. At one time it use to be listed as incompatible. I'm also running a full version of 8.1 pro, and everything is a clean install.

Re: Norton Vulnerability Protection still not compatible with IE11 on Windows 8.1

I just upgraded from IE10 to IE11 and I enabled IE's Enhanced Protection Mode at the same time.  Norton's Vulnerability Protection add-in was automatically disabled and a message about it being incompatable was displayed.

This was on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine, not Windows 8.

If you're using v20 or earlier this would be as expected.

If you know you're on v21, please post back with the version(s) of each of Norton IE add-on(s).

You can find this info by:

- Click the Tools (Gear) Icon in the upper right corner

- Select "Manage add-ons"

- Locate the Symantec of the Add-ons section

- Right-click each of the Norton add-ons and select "More information".

- Make a note of the module name and the version of the add-on

- Repeat this for each of the Norton modules listed

Kind regards,

John
