Norton/NPE Doesn't Detect Malware?

NPE was completed late yesterday, I am now running an anti-malware scan and so far 50 (!!!)  values/keys have been found.

Is it my understanding that Norton does not detect or prevent malware?

No, it deals with jpeg images, MP3 files and that's all! Lol!!

You must have some PUP detected, you have not specified which Anti-Malware utility you used, MBAM maybe?.

Norton scans for severe threats that can corrupt the OS, that doesn't mean that some PUP could not be also very harmful to a system.

100% protection does not exist, you should run Norton as main AV, real-time enabled and use additional scanners on demand.

Also keep your system(s) up to date. (MS, Flash Player, Java etc).

Re: Norton/NPE Doesn't Detect Malware?

Malwarebytes will check for artifacts, such as registry keys and Windows settings that have been changed from their defaults.  In some cases, these might be remnants of an earlier malware infection that has been removed.  If the scan finds only registry entries, it is almost certainly not detecting anything that is still active on the system.  Often, registry entries are left behind intentionally when an antivirus program removes an infection.
