NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 disabled in Firefox 51.0.1

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit and recently noticed the Norton Security Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 is disabled in Mozilla Firefox 51.0.1. And of course there is no Safe Search.

I did the Live Update a few times but it indicates I’m up to date with vers 22.9.1.12.

How do I fix this?

Edit - My "About FF" shows vers 51.0.1 & states it is up to date. But I did some searching & it appears there is a vers 52. I'll update to that & see what happens.

Edit - I updated to FF 52.0.2 and the Norton Security Toolbar is still disabled.

Hi, stymied. Have you restarted ? If the issue persists, you might want to download a fresh version of Firefox, check that the toolbar is enabled with the new version, and then reboot.

Often, just opening and closing the Norton UI will update things.

Re: NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 disabled in Firefox 51.0.1

I just downloaded & installed FF 52.0.1 so it is fresh. I've also restarted FF and the PC. Also downloaded & installed FF 52.0.1 again to make sure it was OK. But so far no changes.

When FF updates it always checks the add-ons, but it did not do this with 52.0.1. So I manually had it check for add-on updates but none were found.

I'm not sure when Safe Search stopped working. While the PC is used everyday, I usually go to the same websites and may not do any actual searching for any given day. Therefore I would not even be looking at search results & never see the Safe Search icon.

When you mention " opening and closing the Norton UI" do you mean just turning off the protection or uninstalling NS? Again, I've don't several Live Updates so NS should be up to date.

In FF when you open Extensions what does it show for Norton Security Toolbar.

Does it show disabled with an enable button to the right?

Hello

It means to X out the Norton Security program and then clicking on the Norton Security icon to start up the program again.

Thanks.

Hello

That Toolbar was disabled by Mozilla according to what that notice says. What does it say when More Information is clicked on?

Thanks.

PS I'm checking with Norton on this since I don't use FF.

That error means FF thinks the Norton Security Toolbar is not signed.

We need to see what "more" shows and also you can try checking for updates in Extensions.

And did you check for the Enable button as suggested in PhoneMan's post above? Click on that.

When I click on updates there is nothing listed for Norton.

When I click on More Information it brings up this website.

Your PDF is cut off on the right side, so we would not be able to see what options are available to you.

It is working fine on my Win 10 system, and FF 52.0.1.

Maybe you need to reinstall your Norton Security product. The Toolbar comes as part of that installation. Download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from   www.norton.com/nrnr

Be sure you read the before you begin section, and  run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

No enable button makes since as FF is blocking it.

One thing to try.

In address bar type about:config and hit enter and it should open the config page.

Scroll to the bottom and you will see xpinstall.signatures.required

It should say default true. Right click it and Toggle to change it to false.

Then close FF and reopen and see if the tool bar is still blocked.

Option is not suppose to work in FF52 but worth a try.

I agree that might be the best option, as it's working fine on my machines, too

Re: NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 disabled in Firefox 51.0.1

The pdf is not really cut off because there is nothing else mentioned on the right. I'll re-post with the full screen width.

Somehow I got to a screen that said:
“Firefox requires your permission to install the Norton Security Toolbar. When you see the Firefox prompt, click Allow and then click Install. It may take a moment for the prompt to appear.”

So I proceeded & got the screen shown in the image below. I clicked on where it says to Enable Norton Security Toolbar. That brought up the message in the upper left corner with the green icon. But right after that the red message appeared that says “Setup unsuccessful, please retry”, and that was not initially there. I tried this several times but got nowhere.

Guess I'll uninstall & reinstall NS and see what happens.

I ran the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool & that corrected the problem - I think.

I went back to the PC about an hour later & 2 messages popped up. They said I needed to update the add-ons for the Secure Toolbar in Internet Explorer & in Firefox. I proceeded to do it for IE but checked the option to "ask me later" for FF because it 's already enabled. I'm confused why it wanted me to add something that is already there. So I hope it's still there later.

Hi,stymied. You really only need the toolbar for the Safe Search site icons to show when you browse. You don't need any of the other addons, really.

This is apparently the norm now when you install Norton Security. It prompts you to check that you have the browser protections you may want. It apparently does not detect that you already have everything enabled. If you click on the FF message next time, you will see that all the features are listed with their current status.

The Safe Search is what I really wanted, so I just hide the Norton toolbar from view.

ALF60 -

Did you have to remove & reinstall NS each time? Or did you find another way to get the toolbar back?

Hi stymied  No I just leave it alone and wait for the next NS update for it to be fixed and hope for the best as it is on a laptop that I don't use much with windows 8.1 on it. My main computer is a desktop with windows 7 and it does not have this problem.

Re: NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 disabled in Firefox 51.0.1

Hi stymied This is about the toolbar on Firefox 52.0.2. I use Ccleaner  to clean up cookies and other things I just noticed  on Firefox using ccleaner to check the  Norton Security tool bar file in plug ins for Firefox it does not match your installed version of Norton Security which is 22.9.1.12 in the last part of the toolbar extension file it is listed as 22.8.1.14 this could be causing the problem. On Internet Explorer the toolbar extension is 22.9.1.12 note on my windows system in IE the are 2 toolbar extensions.  If you have ccleaner on your system  go Tools>Browser>Plugins to see if if this is like this on your system.

ALF60 -

I do not have ccleaner on my PC. Ever since I did the R&R the Norton toolbar is working properly.

Currently I have NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 and FF 52.0.2 and all is good - until next time.

Re: NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 disabled in Firefox 51.0.1

Hi stymied. The toolbar problem is caused by Norton updating through live update as it leaves a old NS engine from the old install I found a version of the NS engine with a #22.8.1.14. so I did a over install of NS 22.9.1.12 over the same version and now on Firefox the toolbar  install in ccleaner shows the correct version of NS22.9.1.12 and the toolbar # 2017.9.1.7

Re: NS 22.9.1.12, Toolbar 2017.9.1.7 disabled in Firefox 51.0.1

Hello Alfo

I believe that after an update to a new version, the old engine name remains until you do a reinstall of the new program.  I think the new contents of the are there.

Thanks.
