NSW Appearance Differences?

When you hover your pointer over the Norton Safeweb Icons in a search engine's results page you're shown a popup with additional information regarding the website's safety rating. This added information (to me) appears exactly the same for the three "common search engine" websites (Google, Bing, Yahoo).  Where it is different however is for the results page of either the Norton Safe Search engine website or when using the NTB Safe Search Box...  Has anyone else noticed these popup appearance differences?

Kind regards,

John

Re: NSW Appearance Differences?

Hi, John. I generally do searches from my Google home page and also use WOT, so I rely on that and the Safe Search icons, as to whether the page is safe.

I don''t use Safe Search, as I'm not mad about using Ask.

Hi John,

Do you mean this?

Safe Search:

While Google looks like this:

Nope - I have not noticed it until you got me curious!

I wil admit, I am not a fan of Ask either, but had to try to duplicate it.

I have no idea why it is different???

Re: NSW Appearance Differences?

Hi Yank; Yes, that's what I was getting at - Thanks for confirming the observation...

Note too that the Bing, Google, and Yahoo info popups are of the same appearance type as the popup that is displayed when you click the website security condition button on the NTB ("This Page Is Safe" / "This Page Is Secure", etc.) - and which also doesn't match the Norton Safe Search website info popups...

I still think that the reason for the appearance differences is that the Norton Safe Search website is fully "self contained" when it comes to generating and displaying the Safeweb Icons (and their associated info popups).  The only NTB involvement is if the Safe Search Box is used to initiate a search - and that simply hands your search request off to the NSS website.  In other words - the displayed results are a completely remote location generation.

For the other three engines (Bing, Google, and Yahoo) I think it's a different situation.  For them the NTB plays a major roll in generating and displaying the icons (and their associated info popups) by intercepting the emitted webpage results of the search engine then "inserting" the icons and info into it.  In other words - the displayed results are a hybridized merger of both locally and remotely generated items.

I also contend that this difference in display generation and manor of NTB intergration to achieve it, coupled with some newly introduced anti-tampering technologies in FF31, is the reason why the NSS website still works (shows Norton Icons) in FF31 while the other three search engine websites do not.

IMHO...

Kind regrards,

John

Re: NSW Appearance Differences?

Hi, John. You could be right about the changes in FF31.

Mozilla seem to getting as bad as Chrome, when it comes to Toolbar compatibility.

The sooner the browser coding geeks and Symantec sort these issues out, the better.

Not much point having a feature that only works part time..........
