Pepperware Nuisance

On 3 occasions, the "Pepperware" pop up appeared on my screen after an attempt to download or upload an email attachment.  I opened the Norton Utility to do a quick scan and repair/remediate each occasion.  Viola....!!  Nothing!  No recognition of the rogue software on the Norton scan! I've tried both quick scan and full scan.

I don't click the subscription button (i.e. "don't fall for it") on the attempt by the Pepperware to invade my system, so it goes away after approximately 600-700 seconds.

How does this scam get around the Norton Utility?  How does it avoid detection?

Thank you for your comments and help in getting rid of this nuisance.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: Pepperware Nuisance

It looks like you have picked up a PUP, a Possibly Unwanted Program. While they are annoying, they do not cause damage to your system. Some people actually want the 'Features' offered by these programs. They are usually downloaded alongside a legitimate download when you do not uncheck the option for the additional download.

Norton products concentrate on malware that can damage your system, that is why some PUPs are not detected.

I would suggest a second opinion scan using the FREE version of Malwarebytes. You can find it here http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/

Be sure you do not accept the offer of the free trial of the Premium version.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
