Phone Scam???

Received phone call with the following information 10/26/14:

Keith Munaz from California employee number IE7626

From Norton Technical Support with return phone number 866-276-7957 ext 3012

Indicated that we had "Suspicious activity on Network (personal)" on Windows 7 that could get into our PC

Indicated that we had to buy more Norton packages and wanted us to give "Name, SS, financial detail, and credit card detail

Indicated that we had more than 10 computers on our network (we only have a couple) - asked for our IP address.

Called again the next day

I don't know how the scam connected our phone number to Norton, our use of Windows 7 -- have others had the same contacts??

Thank you

Re: Phone Scam???

Typical scam.

They are guessing at what you have and with thousands of calls they will get some right.

They guessed 2 of 3 right for you.

Re: Phone Scam???

I received a similar call awhile ago.Claiming I had suspicious activity on my network and asked me for similar info as the thread starter.I stated to them that if I had suspicious activity on my network, then they should already know my ip.Also I get calls claiming my pc is infected at least once a week.I always ask which machine is infected,as I have several,1 each protected by KIS,NS,ESET,Bitdefender, and WSA with Privatefirewall.I always cross them up as to which machine is protected by which etc.I like toying with them.I have reported the calls to my state attorney generals numerous times.I once was able to trace an incident to a building in Ahmedabad,Gujarat and managed to get a hold of a few email addresses at the time which I passed along to the authorities.Needless to say nothing came of it,but I made sure I sent them quite a few presents via email. If there is any justice I nuked their network.

Re: Phone Scam???

Why would anyone even talk with such people? Just tell them to search idiots elsewhere

Re: Phone Scam???

I agree. Scammers are just guessing so don't take them seriously. Next time you get a call like that, hang up and report the call.

Re: Phone Scam???

Don't let their phone numbers mislead you. The number might look like a toll free phone number but it's not. There's a lot of scammer phone numbers listed at Callercenter.com for everyone's reference. You guys can add them to your block list in advance.
