Pop ups

Hey Forum, I receive a pop up saying the following:  Not all Norton features are applied to Firefox.  Please update.  Is this a Virus, Spam or what is this?  Any idea?

Re: Pop ups

1) pop-up is alerting a new ID Safe extension is offered for Firefox....and/or
2) pop-up is reminding/nag that Norton offers browser extension.

Pre-Release Norton Identity Safe extension for Firefox browser

also see > Norton 22.7 Product Update available now

Effective this release, Customers will be prompted with a Safe Search Nag Alert (Similar to Google Chrome) instead of a Popup (In Win 7, 8,8.1, Win 10 and RedStone). The IE extensions portal page (Below screenshot) will be opened after accepting the nag alert and the following Norton extensions can be downloaded from it:

@Renate:

Not all Norton features are applied to Firefox.

vs.:

Some of the Norton protection features are not installed on Firefox.

(NS 22.8.0.50; FF, v45.0.2; Win7 64-bit)

Seems that you met an original warning msg from your Norton software.

We kindly need your confirmation that at least you haven't installed Norton Security Toolbar for Mozilla Firefox yet. To do so, please open your Firefox, enter about:addons into the address bar directly > look closely at the Extensions section on the left side of FF window you open.

Cause: By default, the said Norton Security Toolbar has been disabled by Firefox. You can customize or make the best of the install of that bar this way:

  • Enable that bar manually easily; yet:
  • use Google or other preferred options as your default search engine provider by accessing this page, if you do not like those Ask dot com-based search results. Please note that, Norton Safe Search has nothing to the infamous Ask Toolbar and/or other variants on the web.

In addition too please run your other browsers like Chrome/IE. The thing may be, you haven't noticed you're still missing some additional protections from your Norton app.

Re: Pop ups

@bjm_: I restored my VM and then...

1. I installed NS (original offline setup) on a clean VM > ran Firefox (v45.0.2), then I got the below tab@ about:newaddon?id={C1A2A613-35F1-4FCF-B27F-2840527B6556} from Firefox (I also mean that tab opened automatically, bjm_) > I just ignored that alert by shutting down that tab.

2. I updated NS by running LU - I did not receive any msg from NS re the bar installation for Firefox during that time.

3. Note, I read the following alert re Norton Security Toolbar for Chrome.

The Norton Chrome extensions (Norton Identity Safe 1.0.5 + Norton Security Toolbar (v)2015.7.1.12) are not enabled.

4. Now: "Some of the Norton protection features are not installed on Firefox", again.

Then, there was a typo in OP?

Not all Norton features are applied to Firefox.

vs.:

Some of the Norton protection features are not installed on Firefox.

Or, Norton has made some improvements 2 that msg?

some of / not enabled / not installed / not applied and I forget which came first chicken or egg

Firefox Norton Security Toolbar extension is installed via Norton program.
Firefox Norton Identity Safe extension is installed via Firefox store.

                             Enable Now /// Install Now

seems intuitive by just click and see /// users are afraid to click

Re: Pop ups

Then, those docs would help make sense of Norton's alerts, msgs and as such better.

Re: Pop ups

Hello 20750065

Your FF shows version 45. You are a little out of date. Although I don't use it, I do know it is up to version 49.0.2 at least unless they updated it again. Maybe that is why you got the FF Protection Alert. Or was 45.0.2 a typo??

Thanks.

Re: Pop ups

@floplot:

1. 45.0.2 was not a typo.

2. This time, I update the FF to 49.0.2 on my VM (Win7) first > install NS-ESD-Def-22.8.0.50-EN > leave NS alone for 5'; run FF. During that time, I did not see any alerts re Norton Toolbar from NS.

3. I met this alert re Norton toolbar for IE FIRST.

Some of the Norton protection features are not enabled on Internet Explorer (11)

4. Now, "The Norton Chrome extensions are not enabled".

5. Finally, I got this original alert from NS - I did not update NS, BTW. Turns out that NS updated itself automatically.

You must enable the Norton Security Toolbar before you can enable these two Norton browser protection features.
