Problem with NPE

Hello,

NPE failed to work properly getting stuck on my root folder for some reason. I would like to see this fixed.

Ever heard of timeouts or when a lock is present a bit of information goes a long way. I need a diagnostic version of NPE.exe

One that gives more feedback when it gets stuck. I do have an,
HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.

It does have a Hybrid hard drive which may be part of the problem but it never was before.  I would also say that I just ran a full scan all systems Green full system scan was successful and no outward signs of problems on my laptop.

So what can be done about this. As NPE.exe is downloadable - Already tried the latest and greatest which failed utterly like the NEP scan built into to Norton Security product.

I am not going to fret but it is an issue I would like to see resolved very soon.

Also the latest Windows 10 software is loaded.
from: dxdiag.exe

 Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 14393) (14393.rs1_release_sec.170427-1353)
                 Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
      System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
System Model: HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC
                     BIOS: InsydeH2O Version 03.71.51F.2D

I also have been noticing on boot up at start the system exhibits 99%-100% disk activity - If Norton/Symantec products cause most of this may I suggest an option to slow this usage. if not do you think Microsoft is at fault here. We should not be seeing such disk activity at all on our systems. It can be slowed by running those processes that hog the cpu and disk dma / block transfers to a slower speed take up 40% but never 100%

Taken right from Norton's help about. By the way Norton/Symantec staff - Maybe you can provide the current version number when you notify the customers their product is up to date??? Good form your know???

One more thing where do I find the log file so I can post those results?

Re: Problem with NPE

According to a Norton employee here, you can find any NPE log files in  C:/NPE

I do not think there would be any 'diagnostic' version of NPE. Even if there were, it would probably only be available to employees to use when they remote into your system.

Is the disk usage you mention on system start something new, or have you just now noticed it?  Seems to me that when your system is started, everything gets loaded from your disk. So it is not surprising that the disk usage would be high.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Problem with NPE

Hi rss245x,

I agree, NPE should provide a bit more data about what is happening right now. We will work on improving the experience for more technical users. It will take us some time, but it is something we are trying to do.

The logs in question are in the above link, here it is as well: c:\users\'username'\appdata\Local\NPE

Zip up that directory and send to me privately.

Thank You,

Jeff
