problems with latest norton update

I use Norton safe search as my homepage on Firefox, since the update this morning, 6th October 2017, the homepage changed, added more unused apps,  and is so small I can harldy see them, and every time I go to a website, it's a blank white page with wording at the side, plus I cannot sign into Norton Identity Safe, don't know if it is Norton or Firefox

Re: problems with latest norton update

I'm having Vault problems again, came here & checked the blogs in case there'd been an update. But there hasn't. To what Update are you referring? PC or mobile?

Re: problems with latest norton update

I too am having vault problems. Looks like Norton updated my Identity Safe (Firefox on Windows 10) this week to version 5.0.0.347.

1. For a day or so, I couldn't sign in from the local Norton app. When clicking on Identity Safe from the local app, I was being prompted to sign in to my Norton Account (rather than being prompted for my vault password). After submitting my credentials, it would just loop back again to the sign in prompt. That has happened to me a fair number of times since I started using Identity Safe, and I find if I just wait a few days the problem resolves itself, as it did this time too.

2. However, most of my logins are no longer auto-filling (which means I have to copy and paste credentials from the local copy of my vault). And a few logins are behaving even more strangely, which I think is Norton's fault, because if I turn off Norton and log in manually, nothing that I can see has changed in the vendor/institution's login page. Needless to say, this is highly annoying.

3. Prior to the update, for a number of weeks, I've noticed that Identity Safe was no longer recognizing several of my logins, and after I logged in manually (but with Norton running in my browser), it would ask me if I wanted to save the login (not update the existing one). Which, when I said 'yes', resulted in two logins for the same url.

In sum, Identity Safe is currently functioning as a storage vault, which I can access, but not assisting in the login. I have to believe I'm not the only one having this problem?

I should add that I am using the current version of Firefox, 56.0.

Re: problems with latest norton update

So it's Norton as usual, I don't know why I just renewed it, I have been using Norton for years, and Firefox, and by the way, they took away the Norton toolbar too, I think they concentrate too much on phones and tablets instead of computers and laptops, that's why it always goes wrong

I got the Norton Toolbar back

Re: problems with latest norton update

I noticed that in my Firefox Add-ons the Toolbar is flagged as "legacy". I took/take that to mean Norton is phasing it out. I don't much care, it's the vault I really use.

By the way, another thing I noticed with Identity Safe in Firefox the last few months. For a period of time, I think starting a few months ago, when I would open Identity Safe in the browser, it would open a new tab with all my logins displayed and clickable. I didn't really need this and would usually just close the tab. As of the update this week, it's not doing that any more. I'm not reporting it as a problem, just an observation, though it may be a symptom of Identiy Safe-Firefox instability.

Re: problems with latest norton update

I now know that Norton updated to work with Firefox 57 which comes out on November 14th, the word  Legacy next to  your add-ons means that you won't be able to use them with Firefox 57 unless they are updated, that is why the Norton toolbar has been removed from my Firefox

Re: problems with latest norton update

Thanks, that explains the situation with the Norton Toolbar. But my real concern is that the vault in my Firefox browser continues to, for the most part, not work. I noticed another problem this weekend. I created an account on a web site and was not prompted by Norton, as I'm supposed to be, whether to save it in my vault or not. I then created the login manually in my local vault, it synced fine and auto-filled when I logged into that account again. Something definitely not right with the browser app. Moderator?

Re: problems with latest norton update

I am hoping that the identity safe will work when Firefox updates to 57, at the moment I have to look up my logins in Norton

Re: problems with latest norton update

I thought I would give Identity Safe another go, and would you believe it the Norton toolbar is back and my logins are logging in automatically again, I don't understand it, one day I have the Norton toolbar and the next day it's gone, so annoying

Re: problems with latest norton update

I feel your pain azara50, I have been watching this situation since it started (several other threads) and that is why I continually deny permission to update Norton Identity Safe Firefox add-on and remain at v.  2.1.0.24 which works brilliantly. I am watching and waiting until I see postings praising the corrections made and the proper workings of NIS. I have 2 computers this one, my main which is windows 10 and a windows 7, I tried updating NIS on the windows 7 one and had same problems as you and everybody else, so switched it back too.  Some day maybe we'll all be happy with Norton again but at least I didn't switch to Kaspersky !!!

azara50: Yes, I see the Toolbar back again, but my logins are still not working automatically.

freebirdwil: Is there a CURRENT thread (as in the last week or so) also discussing this problem, and if so, could you link us to it?

@Randy Gibbons:  Sorry all I see are multiple threads from previous problems and many individual threads complaining about basically the same problem just with a different header, there definitely needs to be a single active thread centered in on the fact that updating to current release version of NIS may get you Firefox 57 compatibility but certainly will cost you the functionality you had before.

November 3, 2017: An update to the Identity Safe for Firefox add-on, version 5.1.0.80, auto-installed today (my Firefox version is current, 56.0.2 {64-bit}). At first glance, at least, it seems to have resolved the problems I was having, in particular, with auto-fills not working.

Re: problems with latest norton update

My Firefox updated to 56.0.2(64 bit) and the Norton ID safe is also the same as yours, but id safe didn't change, I went to Norton Identity Safe site and signed in there, and also signed in to id safe, now mine is working but they have changed the settings and you can't tick autofill, so it's not auto filling, but it is now showing the log in and you have to click on it, better than the way it was I suppose, I am in UK maybe it works better elsewhere

Re: problems with latest norton update

Hello Azaro

Have you restarted your computer after the Firefox update so that it settles into your computer? Have you tried using a Windows Administrative Account and then try logging in and see if you can click on the Auto-fill ins ?

Have a nice day and

Thanks.
