Norton Security on my PC does not do an automatic Quick Scan, therefore every few days the application indicates that a scan must be run by selecting "Fix Now". After 3 days the Quick Scan finally completes.
Are you turning the PC on every day? If not, that is why you get the 'Fix Now' prompt.
Start by running LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.
If Quick Scan continues to take 3 days after trying what peterweb suggested - select HELP from the main screen of Norton, then Get Support. Let it run and see if it corrects anything. If still no joy, you may have to remove and reinstall your Norton Product - please let us know it you need assistance with the remove and reinstall.
Thanks for all your help so far. I tried all the recommendations, except the remove and reinstall option, but the problem still exists. I'll try the remove and reinstall option. Are there any extra steps to do that are not part of the Norton solution? I had Norton support investigation this same problem on another computer, but nothing worked and they left the PC in an unacceptable state. I had to do a Windows refresh, then installed Norton Security again. Norton Security now works fine on this other PC. I don't want to through another Windows refresh to solve this Norton problem.
I also mentioned that Norton Security, on this PC, does not run a scan in the background when the computer is idle. I wonder if this may be causing the problem.
You should not have to do any Windows refreshes to reinstall your Norton product. Just download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from www.norton.com/nrnr Run this from a Windows admin account, and after the reinstall has completed, be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.
