I asked a computer fixup shop to restore a missing file on PC that was preventing me from booting. Instead they reinstalled Windows XP, and now all my applications are uninstalled. In particular, Windows thinks I have no anti-virus program and the driver for my cable modem has gone missing.
Before they kindly did a job on me, Windows Explorer would show a directory or something of all the files Norton 360 was backing up, so I could check my backup choices without going online. It's gone now. Reinstalling Firefox wiped out my bookmarks, so I'm worried that reinstalling Norton 360 (if I ever get my modem working) may similarly persuade NOBU somehow that I have nothing chosen for backup and I'll lose everything. Is there any danger of this? And if the answer is no, are you really really sure?
Is there something I can do short of reinstallation to persuade Windows that Norton 360, for which all the program files still seem to be around, is still my anti-virus etcetera program?
