Remove backup set for old computer

My computer crashed and I needed to replace it.  After setting up Norton Backup on my new pc I cannot find a way to remove the old backup set for the old pc.  This is consuming more than half of my storage space.  If I try to "manage backup sets" on my new computer, the backup set from my old computer doesn't show.  But if I go online it does.

Re: Remove backup set for old computer

Same here. I use Norton Backup through my Norton 360 subscription and did not purchase Backup separately. There is no option to delete backup sets for "dead" computers, either from current computers or from the nobu.backup.com site. The Norton techs can't seem to do it either.

I have a lot of storage being used by "dead" computers. Can anyone tell us how to free up this storage? There seems to be a lot of these questions in this forum, none that I can see have been answered. Thanks!

Re: Remove backup set for old computer

Hello kevwr and Patrick55.

Can you tell us what Norton product you are using (I note that Patrick55 is using N360) and where the old backups reside?  Are the old backups on the Norton Online Backup or on a local hard drive?

I assume that you are both using Windows PCs.  If you look at My Computer in Windows Explorer can you see the "Norton Backup Drive" on the right hand pane?  If so does that show the backup sets you want to remove?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Re: Remove backup set for old computer

Thanks for the quick reply, Andmike ! I am using N360, Win 7 Pro and my backups are Online only (no C drive backups). Yes, I see the "Norton Backup Drive" in Computer. Yes, it shows all of my backup sets, including those I want to remove.

Re: Remove backup set for old computer

Hi Patrick55.

That sound good.  You mention "those" you want to remove.  I suggest we try with one first.  I would be inclined to try the smallest but that is not really important.

  • Make sure you have a good internet connection.
  • Make an exact note of the name of the backup (in case we need to go to plan B ).
  • Select that backup in the Norton Backup Drive.
  • Right click and you should get the option to Delete.  Select that, confirming if necessary and wait until complete.

Hopefully that backup set will now have gone.  You might like to go online to check that it really has.  If it has, repeat the above with all the others you wish to remove.

Finally, whatever happens please report back here so to that your experiences can help inform others.

Good luck.

Worked great, thanks!  Never would have thought to look there (and neither did the Norton tech who tried to assist)
