Remove Prior Norton Security Version When Updating?

We have Norton Security Deluxe expiring on several computers.  We have purchased a five user license upgrade on one of them.  If I want to install the current Norton Security on the other machines, is it better to remove the current (near expiry date) version before installing the new one?  The installation will be done by the "Install on More Devices" link.

I go back many years with Norton products, and there was a time when it was advisable to uninstall/remove existing versions of Norton Security from the computer that was to receive the current version.  Is that still the case or is there no advantage to manually removing Norton from the machine that will download the latest version via the "Install on More Devices" link?

Thanks very much for your help with this.

Re: Remove Prior Norton Security Version When Updating?

As long as you have kept Norton Security up to date, it will be the same product you would be installing. So no need to uninstall first.

Just go to each computer and open Norton and click on Help and then on Enter Product Key at the bottom right. Enter your new product key to update your subscriptions.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Remove Prior Norton Security Version When Updating?

Thanks for your reply.  As it turned out, I was not able to successfully complete the update by entering the product key.  This was originally (about a year ago) a five user license Norton Security product.  Norton was installed on one of the other machines in the office, and the owner of that machine renewed the five-user license on his computer (which worked fine).  The machine I was trying to renew is in he same office and, as it turned out, was one of the computers that used Norton Security via the original five-user license.  When I tried to renew Norton on this machine by entering the product key, it turned out to be the same product key that had been used to install Norton on this machine a year ago.  I received an error message from Norton stating that the license had already been used on this machine and could not be used again (error -1016).  Of course there are actually four open licenses with this product key, based on what the recently renewed computer displayed on its Norton Security screen.  For some reason, the renewal process on the second machine did not pick up the fact that we had already renewed the five-user license.  Instead it stopped the process with the error message on the second machine.

What I ended up doing was using the "email invite" option to send a download link.  Although this is more cumbersome and time consuming than your suggestion, it did work, and renewed the (same) license on the second machine for another year.
