Replace Premium with Deluxe

I have run Norton Premium for a few years but never needed the 10 Licences and Backup it provides. I only need to cover 3 devices so I've purchased a 1 Year subscription to Norton Security Deluxe (5 Devices in a pack with code enclosed). I have 19 days left on the Premium. Can I just use the code to update my Norton or do I have to totally uninstall Premium first?

Re: Replace Premium with Deluxe

You can just enter the new code into your current product. While using a Windows Admin account, from the main Norton page, click on Help - Enter Product Key. When you do this, it will initiate a removal and reinstall process, but this time it will install the Deluxe product. Just be sure to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Do this with one or two days remaining on the old subscription, because you will lose any remaining time on the old subscription.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I'll wait a few weeks to do this then!

Hi Old Engineer:

Just an FYI that my own experience was slightly different, but that might be because I use Norton v22.15.x (the legacy version for Win XP/Vista).

The subscription for my Norton Security Premium v22.15.1.8 (the legacy version for Win XP / Vista) expired in January 2019.  Like you, I never used Norton Backup and purchased a cheaper Norton Security Deluxe product key at Staples Canada.  I entered the new NS Deluxe product key at Help | Account Information | Enter Product Key the day before my subscription expired, and after I re-booted my computer all the panels and settings in the Norton interface that were related to Norton Backup had been automatically removed with no need for re-installation and NS Deluxe functioned normally.

The Single Layout feature described in the January 2018 Norton v22.12.0 product update announcement <here> states "Single Layout is a process improvement that is focused on enhancing the customer experience when the customer wants to shift between different product offerings without the need of uninstall and reinstall".  I don't know if that's still the expected behaviour for Norton v22.17.x (Win 7 SP1 and higher), though.  Symantec recently added new product lines like the "new" Norton 360 described <here> (available for US customers only for now) and are rolling out new features like Norton Data Protector, Norton SecureVPN and PC SafeCam in some products, so perhaps Single Layout (i.e., without an uninstall / reinstall of the full product) doesn't work as well as it used to.

Re: Replace Premium with Deluxe

Thanks @lmacri for the added information. I was basing my information on my latest experience with upgrading to the new 360 product by just adding the product key. I guess as that is a completely new product line, it is not included in the single layout for the current Norton Security products, and caused the reinstall process.

The good news is that just entering the new product key will take care of what needs to be done.
