The safe web checkmarks for search results have gone away.

Norton  360 v 22.20.5.39, Microsoft Windows 10 Professional (x64) Build 19041.508 (2004/May 2020 Update).               Google Chrome is up to date - Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit).

As of 10/01/2020 the safe web checkmarks for search results have gone away.  No program installs/changes since 9/25/2020.

Twice I deleted the extension, rebooted and reinstalled.  There was no change.  I have no idea how this occurred.  Thanks.

FWIW ~
My understanding is:
NortonLifeLock is aware of this behavior, and hopefully will be resolved soon.

FWIW ~ Chrome, at this time -
Bing search does offer search results annotations -
Yahoo search does offer search results annotations -

Google search does not offer search results annotations -

Yes.  You assisted me with a misconfiguration on 8/23/20 with remove incognito access.  In an earlier exchange a similar comment was posted about NLL awareness..  It has worked for me in the past and now up until yesterday.  Thanks.

Me too.

Safe icon disappear in chrome.

The reason I am using Norton for this and if Norton not going to fix this problem than i will move to other vendor.

Hope norton fix this problem soon as they can.

FWIW ~
the current issue with Chrome + Google search results + Norton Safe Web not reporting search results annotations .... is not just Norton Safe Web -

Bitdefender TrafficLight is not reporting search results annotations with Chrome + Google search results -

Avast Online Security is not reporting search results annotations with Chrome + Google search results -

as always, your mileage may vary

Bing search and Yahoo search are reporting search results annotations with Chrome + Google search results + Norton Safe Web -

Re: The safe web checkmarks for search results have gone away.

Same issue here with Norton 360 and Norton Safe Web:

  • Norton Safe Web does NOT work in Google Chrome with Google search.
  • Norton Safe Web works in Chrome with Bing search.
  • Norton Safe Web does NOT work in Mozilla FireFox with either Google search or Bing search.
  • Norton Safe Web does NOT work in MS Edge with either Google search or Bing search.

So in short, right now Safe Web check marks for web sites only appear in Chrome with Bing search.

(I have not tested it with Yahoo search).

Norton Safe Web extension supports Search results annotation for Google/Yahoo/Bing on Chrome browser alone.

For Firefox/Edge/Safari browsers, we don't offer the search annotation on Google/Yahoo/Bing, but our extension will continue to offer below features on Firefox/Edge/Safari.

 1. Protection from Sites with threats

 2. Antiphishing protection

etc

Thanks.

I currently just use Chrome, which explains why I did not know / notice that the other browsers do not support Safe Web.

Before finding this thread, the only reason I tested Safe Web with Edge and Firefox was to try to determine the root cause of Safe Web suddenly no longer working with Chrome.

Hopefully Norton fixes this soon.

I agree with njweb.  And suddenly describes it.

Re: The safe web checkmarks for search results have gone away.

FWIW - I did not reload Chrome, but did uninstall and reinstall Norton 360 several times to ensure the extension wasn't interacting with it. I went so far as to manually remove all traces of Norton and Safe Web from the hard drive and from the registry. There are a lot of protected keys remaining in the registry even after the uninstall - cache and others. Removing hard drive entries got rid of extension files in all browsers and attempting to manage extensions after that resulted needing to remove the extension before reinstalling.

Interesting side note after reinstallation and first run of a browser. The link that appears to install Safe Web in the browser adds the extension from a Web Store link...however, if you go to the web store and search for "Safe Web" it does not return any links! It *does* return a link for Safe Search.

It's interesting that first browser runs after reinstallation suggest adding norton extensions in Chrome, Firefox and Edge but no mention is made of results not appearing in any but chrome.

Re: The safe web checkmarks for search results have gone away.

Issue is fixed and released with Norton Safe Web extension version 3.13.0.15

If you dont get the update, please open

1. chrome://extensions/ from the address

2. Find Norton Safe Web extension and click on "Details" button in it

3. Click "Update" button to get the latest updates which should have the fix.

Regarding Extension Button missing,

1. Chrome has changed the post installation behavior of extension

2. So post installation, please click on the below icon from the right top corner of chrome browser

3. Click Pin icon to display the Extension button

Thanks! In my case, there was no 'update' button when I clicked on 'Details'. However, I simply used the 'remove' option and then added the extension again (as a work around to get the latest version).

I can confirm, the check marks are now working again. Thanks for the quick fix.

Re: The safe web checkmarks for search results have gone away.

I opened a Chrome browser today and the Safe Web annotations were back. I did nothing (consciously) to get this to work. They just re-appeared.

Good. Now ... STAY!
