"Service Expired", but Subsciption has just been renewed

I have an old laptop which is meant to be protected by Norton Internet Security. Recently (9th January 2015), my subscription was automatically renewed and I thought I ought to update the virus definitions. When I tried to do this, a relatively small amount of data -- small because the machine hadn't been used for 200+ days -- was downloaded (about 13Mbytes) and I was told to restart the laptop, which I did. When I then tried to use Live Update again, I got a window saying (in a big red box), "Completed", and adding, "LiveUpdate Finished - No Updates Found" plus, "Service is Expired". I don't know why the service has expired, but if it has, why was money taken to renew it? Any suggestions as to what I might do will be welcome. (Note that I'm far more interested in getting the virus protection up and running than getting a refund.)

You posted on the Norton Security board but, prompted NIS.  So, I'll reply to NIS
Yesterday, out of the blue.  I had 30 Trial Expired twice.  Fix Now seem to satisfy.  But, satisfy did not last.   Sync sub with Norton server.  Helped until the third Fix Now.  Then I tried NRnR Tool.  No joy.  Then I did Control Panel uninstall and install with full download exe saved with my downloads.  Had to update passed 21.5

So, far seems to be holding.   Never happened to me before ?    If no joy  Chat with Norton Support ---- NRnR Tool  ---- www.norton.com/latestnis

Panic over.

Soon after I posted my earlier comment, I realised what was really going on. (I'd have posted what had happened there and then, but because I had logged out in the meantime, I couldn't recall exactly where that post was (and didn't know how to find it; so thanks for replying and thereby allowing me to return to this thread ).

What had happened was not that my service -- my ability to use the service -- had somehow expired; the particular service itself had. What I hadn't noticed when my subscription was renewed was the text on the bottom right hand side of the email, which stated:

Convenience - Continue to receive FREE protection updates and new versions with your product subscription. Get the latest version now.

Clicking on the link brought me to a page from where I could update the service, i.e. download a current working version to replace my obsolete software. So having agreed to and performed the update, the virus protection on that old (but still functional) laptop is now up and running.

Thanks again for your response.

Yes, I can now see that it's there under Latest Activity.

From that it sounds as though you may now have Norton Security (2015 product; Version ID 22 ......) and no longer the Norton Internet Security you had before for which the latest version was V21.....

Perhaps you could check and if so then you are in the right place! <s>

Norton Internet Security (and NAV / N360)  are discontinued products although still technically supported by Norton.
