Session Definition for Firefox NIS

Was in chat session for over an hour with Norton Support about the need to keep unlocking the Identity Safe vault when using Firefox as my browser.  The Identity Safe behavior differs from using IE.  With IE, you unlock once per computer session.  With Firefox, you unlock once per browser session.  That is, every time you close the browser, you must unlock the vault again in order to access your logins/passwords.  Support ultimately blamed this on a Firefox browser limitation, as opposed to the way the NIS add-in is programmed.  That's hard to accept.  Can anyone offer a suggestion on how to make the Firefox NIS behave the way the IE NIS has behaved for years?

Sorry, in their wisdom Symantec have decided that it is a potential security risk to leave the vault open.  It is no longer possible to have the Firefox extension open per session.

One not-so-user-friendly work around is the open the vault through the Norton GUI, then copy and paste your login details.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

But, why is Firefox different from IE?  Or, is it being changed too?  I'm not sure I understand your work around, but any copy/paste would likely be as much or more trouble than just typing the vault PW again.  Support told me that it was just a Firefox limitation -- which didn't make sense to me.

Well it isn't Firefox because I use Enpass and I have it set to close after the machine is idle for 30 minutes or I lock my PC.  Enpass stays open whether I close FF or not, same with Chrome.  Norton could design the vault that way too but chose not to.

I have no idea what they plan for IE but don't be surprised if at some point it is no longer supported.

But, why is Firefox different from IE?

Currently, IE is still using the ID Safe functionality from your Norton Security product, that still works the way things did in the past. For FireFox, Chrome and Edge, Norton now uses stand alone browser extensions that are not connected to any of the ID Safe code in Norton Security. And as Krusty13 pointed out, when these new extensions were designed, someone decided for us that the vault should close for security reasons.

Many, many, many posts here have complained about the lack of control of the auto logout. Norton has not been able to, or just will not address these concerns.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
