Settings quick controls and manual live update

I recently installed Norton Security and all seems fine, however I have a couple of simple questions that I can't find an answer to in the manual or on here so would appreciate it if someone can clarify the following for me.

On the Norton settings drop down page under Quick Controls does a light blue cross in the little boxes next to the six items listed mean that the item is switched on or switched off? Apart from silent mode they all have a light blue cross in so i'm hoping this means on.

The one for Automatic Live Updates is set for 15 minutes and yet if I do a manual live update it still sometimes does some updates. Is this normal?

I have not altered any of these items since I installed NS.

Frank.

Re: Settings quick controls and manual live update

Hi Frank,

Yes, the little blue X's mean the item is turned ON, and Silent Mode not being selected is normal.

Let me answer with a question - if an auto LiveUpdate runs every 15 minutes and you do a Manual LiveUpdate at the 10 minute point and there was an update available at the 8 minute point, and since the auto update was not at it's "time to run", doesn't it make sense for the manual update to pull down the update from the 8 minute point rather than waiting for the 15 minute point?

This is typically normal - being able to receive updates by running manually IMHO is desired.

Thank you yank for clearing that up for me on both points, with two perfect answers. Much appreciated.

Re: Settings quick controls and manual live update

Umm, how does one get Norton run Live Update every 15 minutes?  I thought it was run hourly when the machine was idle.

So did I Krusty13, but decided not to muddy the waters.

Re: Settings quick controls and manual live update

Under the settings drop down list is Quick Controls, I clicked on "Automatic live updates" and along with a warning about computer at risk if you turn it off there was another drop down list which showed 15 minutes and going up in increments of 15 minutes I think. Mine had a tick agains the 15 Minute mark so that is where I left it.

Re: Settings quick controls and manual live update

In older products there was Pulse Updates that used to run between 5 and 15 minutes, but Pulse Updates have been removed since the first release of v22.x.  I can't find the drop down list for Live Update on my machines.

That is not to set frequency to run LiveUpdate but on the contrary a way to turn off the feature which is inadvisable and this is why you see the Security request asking to select the duration - from 15 minutes up to permanently - you want to turn it off:

Thanks @Rainbow_2!  That might just explain it.

Thanks for putting me right on that, I had obviously misunderstood it.
