Show Norton toolbar in ie10 on Windows 8

In Windows 8 the Norton toolbar isn't showing and a Norton employee posted that's it's in hidden mode. Anyway to force show the toolbar?
When in doubt, uninstall / reinstall :smileywink:Windows 7 SP1 (64 bit), Norton Internet Security 2013, Internet Explorer 10, SpywareBlaster

Re: Show Norton toolbar in ie10 on Windows 8

Hi WLP,

Toolbar will be in hidden mode,if  we purchase a PC with  Windows8 and  NIS Pre installed. Since Microsoft requested us to keep  Norton toolbar in hidden mode on their browser(IE10). We cannot forcefully show toolbar in IE10,

Note: Toolbar can be displayed other than pre installed layout like Retail,ESD, etc

Thanks,

Senthil.

What if the user wants the toolbar to be shown? Any way to do that? Re-install?

I'm just a dumb Win 8 non-user - but since the preinstalled is the one with the NTB hidden, I would assume (we all know about that word), that an uninstall of preinstalled NIS, and a "clean install of NIS just might change things.  That way the "pre-installed version" would no longer be in the gameplan.

I don't use Windows 8, but I know the question will come up eventually.  I'm just curious is there a non-reinstall way to do it.

Hi,
I don't know but I suspect that the answer is 'no'. There would have to be a code change made that updates would not undo. Which means that the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool

may be the only solution.

Re: Show Norton toolbar in ie10 on Windows 8

My solution for this situation...

The Background:

My Win8 HP Notebook, which I acquired last mid-November, came with a preinstalled NIS2013 six month trial. I went ahead and activated that copy of NIS and soon discovered what I (at the time) perceived to be another 2013 bug - If you have your IE configured to open/load more than one (tabbed) webpage on startup (as I do), that version of NIS2013 would show the NTB on the first tab, but the NTB would be hidden on all the additional tabs - I posted about it at the time but received no replies.  Based on these more recent posts I now assume this behavior was "corrected" by a subsequent LiveUpdate push so that the NTB is now hidden on all IE10 tabs including the first.

My Fix:

Two days after activating the trial (and then discovering the hidden agenda issue,) I logged into my online Norton account and made a note of the trial activation key.  I then uninstalled NIS2013 using system control panel, ran NRT (just in case), installed NIS2012 and activated it using the trial key.  It worked fine.  A relief because at that time there was still a possibility of the 2013 key not working with the 2012 installation - but it did, and I'm happy to say, it's been no worries since!

Kind Regards,

John

First, are you using the ie 10 in win 8 mode or desktop mode?  If you go to the desktop and use ie10,  the norton toolbar is there.  I did have to jump hoops.  I also added a ie10 icon to the home page so I can get to the full ie, not the mobile version.

On all the store PCs I use, despite Norton being fully activated, toolbar is not showing.  I have Windows 7 but I want to know how to show the toolbar on Windows 8.

Desktop. But didn't a Norton employee said that pre-installed Norton have toolbar hidden?

As I understand it, it is hidden in Metro mode and visible in Desktop mode - has something to do with Metro running IE 10 on 64 bit and Desktop mode running IE10 on 32 Bit.

It is the same way with IE9 on my Win 7 - no NTB using 64 bit IE 9, ut I  have the NTB whenusing 32 bti IE9.

Well on all WIndows 8 PC I saw have the toolbar disabled even in desktop mode.  I hope I'm not wasting your time.  I was just curious on how to enable it on Windows 8 desktop.

Re: Show Norton toolbar in ie10 on Windows 8

Hi,

Toolbar will displayed only in Desktop mode for all layout except one - pre installed layout. We don't have any app for Metro mode and toolbar will not be displayed in Metro IE as we don't support.

If toolbar is not displayed, Launch IE10(32bit) Desktop mode, Right click on Tab area->Select Menu bar,

From Menu bar,Go to Tools->Manage addons->Toolbars and Extensions->Enable Norton addons if it was disabled.

Hope this clarifies your doubts.

Thanks,

Senthil
