Stop deleting the files

I literally want my money back. This program is garbage; whatever I download it keeps deleting it?

Any way to disable the stupid deletes and blocks coming out from Norton? This is getting really annoying now, I want my downloaded files to stay so I can run them, but this stupid program just deletes it all !

Hello Laxxie

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

What Norton product are you using and what is the version number? What O/S are you using? What kinds of files are you trying to download?

Hello

Are the files that were deleted in your quarantine section.? Go to Security>History>

Security History> dropdown to quarantine. Are the files listed in Quarantine? If they are,  you can submit them to Symantec to be further analyzed. If they are clean, they will be put on the white list and be safe then.

Re: Stop deleting the files

So I can't put them on my own list of to not delete them? That's ridiculous.

Re: Stop deleting the files

I believe if you go into your Quarantine you can click on the file and select more options then exclude them from further scans and also restore the file. Or at least that how I think it used to work.

For example;

Open your history, recent history

Click on something that's been removed

Click More Options, Click Options

Click Exclude this program

You can also open Norton Security, Click Help, Click Product Manual and type page 116 and hit Enter. That'll show you the options to exclude things you feel are safe.

Re: Stop deleting the files

It has been my [mis]understanding that one of the major criticisms of NS is that in some cases NS will delete a file it considers dangerous (with a high probability) w/o asking and w/o placing it into quarantine.

Do an All-Forum search using terms "delete system file"

NS, and some other security suites, have been criticized on a highly respected security forum for doing this.

Hello

Deleting a system file is different than having a file that that you created being deleted..

Hi Laxxie:

Are you certain that Norton is deleting your downloaded files?  If you are seeing a pop-up message stating "Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded." every time you try to download a file using your Internet Explorer browser, this could be a sign that malware has disabled downloading in your IE browser settings at Tools | Internet Options | Security | Internet zone | Custom level | Downloads | File download.

See jcrain27's thread Can not download anything from the internet, because Norton 360 is blocking for more information if you are seeing this pop-up message.  If you see a different pop-up and you're certain that Norton Security is responsible for blocking/deleting your files, it would be helpful if you could post a screenshot of one of the notification alerts you see when you attempt a download - see instructions in Andmike's thread How to post an image in the forums.

Re: Stop deleting the files

Imacri, you misunderstood. I download files and once I try to run them Norton blocks it and doesn't let me open them (as well as deletes them). However SGFC already gave me an answer I was looking for.
Thank you all very much.

Hi Laxxie:

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but I wasn't clear if files were being blocked before or after they were downloaded to your hard drive.

Just be warned that SGFC's instructions <here> will exclude files from Norton scans regardless of their trust rating or reputation.  It's always possible that your files were being blocked because they were infected with malware, and we generally recommend that users first confirm that detected files are safe by submitting the file for analysis to VirusTotal.com and/or Symantec as instructed in the thread How to report false positives before adding them to any scan exclusions.  If Norton Security is suddenly detecting a wide variety of "safe" files (especially your work files) as false positives this could also indicate that your Norton installation is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.
