System Tray/Taskbar Icon

I updated the version of Identity Safe in Google Chrome and an Identity Safe icon appeared in my Windows 10 system tray. I right clicked on it and deselected "show icon in taskbar" or similar and it went away. I now want it back and cannot find out how to do this. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it never appears. How do I get it back?

Oddly it will does not recognise the username and password boxes in American Express logon page (UK).

Re: System Tray/Taskbar Icon

tnjuk Check your system settings for the taskbar. Reboot your machine. Recheck for your issue.

The machine is rebooted at least every day and the icon is not there. Thanks.

tnjuk Did you check your system settings for the taskbar as suggested?

Re: System Tray/Taskbar Icon

I have never seen a Norton Identity Safe icon in the System tray. It also does not show up in the Taskbar settings as an option to display.

What you might have seen was a temporary icon related to the prompt to install or activate the updated extension. Did you try left clicking on the icon before you removed it? If so what happened?

Hi Peter,

It's actually the Chrome Background Tasks (Chrome Apps) Framework...

As long as there's no overriding Chrome policy in effect, the Framework auto-enables (activates) as the "support housing" of the new Norton extension installation...

Once in place, you'll see the Chrome Background Framework Icon in the Task-Tray...

Right-Clicking the Chrome Background Tasks Icon will reveal its emplacement causation...

I hope this helps to clear up some of the confusion.

Cheers!

You may be right. The uncertainty of the OP's recollection of the actual options, and saying it was an ID Safe icon led me to the suggestions I made.

Let's see if they post back to confirm this is what they saw.

Re: System Tray/Taskbar Icon

Thanks for all the replies. I had an orange icon in the system tray (similar to the pinned one in the Chrome menu with no text I have attached a picture of) which when clicked included options of "Open Identity Safe " and similar to "show this icon". It did not open Identity Safe so I deselected "show this icon" to never see it again. It appeared just after I installed the new version of Identity Safe and still had the old standalone version installed with the local vault. I have since converted to cloud and uninstalled the old version.

Re: System Tray/Taskbar Icon

The icon you were most likely seeing was the old stand alone version.

Hi Peter,  Good point!

Based on the OP's followup post (showing the example Chromium menu and accompanying comments,) it could well, as SoulAsylum suggests, have been the task Icon for the now discontinued Stand-Alone Vault version. I never made use of that version so have no experience as to how that version used to present itself on the Windows Desktop.

Cheers!

FWIW The standalone version of ID Safe never worked with the local vault. It was a cloud vault only app.
