Is There A Foolproof Cure For Firefox 26 Crashes with Norton Identity Safe?

Is there a foolproof cure, or is there just try removing and reinstalling both Norton and Firefox, and maybe that will work? I'm running Windows 8.0, Norton 360 21.1.0.18 and Firefox 26.0.

Can anyone that is using Firefox 26 and the current Norton ID safe all the time say they aren't having a problem?

To your last question, I can say I am not having trouble with Firefox 26 and Norton Internet Security V21.1.0.18. This on a Win 7 Ultimate system.

Did you ensure you had fully updated your 360 before allowing Firefox to update to V26? It is important to do it in this order. If you did not, it can cause issues that have been documented many times here in the forum.

Unfortunately the way this usually gets fixed is to Uninstall both Firefox and Norton, then reinstall Norton, and make sure it is fully updated before reinstalling Firefox.

In future, you need to make sure you have Firefox updates set to notify you and let you choose when to update. Then make sure you have the Norton Toolbar update for the new Firefox version before allowing Firefox to update.

If you need more detailed help to reinstall everything, post back and we will talk you through it.

Ok, I'll give it a try. I did have the updated version of N360 before I updated to Firefox 26, but I've been having ths issue for quite a while (well before Firefox 26 was available).

I guess I should have also included the online password database in my question. I assume you are using that also?

Do I need to do a full wipe of N360?

Thanks for your help.

Hi geneintexas. I have Firefox 26 and although I have NIS V21, the architecture is much the same as 360, and I have had no crashing problems, for a long while now.

As peterweb says, it's always best to have 360 updated first before you update Firefox, to ensure they play well together.

Rather than updating throughthe browser Help/About tab, it's often better to download the new version from Mozilla, and do a full install of Firefox.

Try that, before attempting a reinstall of 360.

If you use the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool, that will give you a fresh install of 360. The link is here, if needed.

If you were having this problem before upgrading FF, I would suggest you follow F4E's suggestion to uninstall FF and download a fresh FF installation.

Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool to get a fresh install of 360. Be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Then install FF.

Reboot once more and test the system.

Sorry, it's been a while. Do I need to do a complete Firefox unisnstall? If so, how is that done? I've noticed that even removing all preferences that Firefox still leaves some stuff on the computer. I'm having the issue with Windows 8 in a non-administrater account. I've removed Firfox as completely as I could and reinstalled 360, but still have the issue. I'm also running KeyScrambler and NoScript. Could they be causing problems?

Hi,

I don't think that the term 'foolproof' is valid at any time when discussing computers. Neither the hardware nor the software has ever proven to be foolproof. Sorry I can't offer you any better hope.

I've never used either of those programs so I don't know if there is a conflict. Again, sorry.

Just uninstalling Firefox should be enough. Then download and run a fresh Firefox installer.

NoScript  and KeyScrambler could be causing some grief if they have not been updated for Win 8. Try disabling them to see if it solves your issues.
