Is there a new Fake Flash Player trying to install in W10?

I know that Windows 10 automatically updates the Adobe Flash Player in its' monthly updates. My latest was: "Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4051613)", November 3rd, 2017.

I didn't get a chance to copy the web site, but it said something to the effect that my Flash Player was out of date and it started to download the file, which I stopped. (This was while starting IE11.) There was a reference to an odd adobe file in my task manager, which I ended the task. I ran a full system scan in Norton and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Quick scans in SUPERAntiSpyware and HitmanPro. There was nothing found other than some tracking cookies. Nothing has popped up again, but I will capture the information if it happens again. Just wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem?

Hello nychucky. This happens all the time. Websites doing the old drive by lets spoof the user and see how far it gets. You're spot on knowing that FlashPlayer ONLY gets its update from Windows updates. Any other popup attempting that install from a website is more than likely an attempt to install malware on your system. Since you have ran the appropriate scans and are clean you more than likely don't have anything to worry about. I would check your browser settings for allowing popups, etc. going forward.

Cheers

SoulAsylum,

This happens in Firefox all the time, but has never started a download. It was the first time, to my recollection, that I got it in IE11 and it started a download without my permission. I'll keep a close eye on it.

Thanks for your input,

Norton Fighter 25,

The only one I can find in the Control Panel is NPAPI Plug-in Version  is 24.0.0.186. PPAPI Plug-in Version is not installed. I looked at Firefox in the and didn't know where to find the version. I may need a little giudance with that one. (The videos do work, but I don't know the specifics.)

Thank you for the input,

This morning I listened to Today radio 4 after a few clicks to their listen now tab. Then later in day I could not listen to current or previous BBC. Had to have Flash, it was enabled and I checked and then followed BBC link  and separate adobe Flash player site nothing worked.  Shut down and then BBC works. Any answers also shut down have to force.
