Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

Hello,

I an running Norton Security (5 key License) and noticed that no tracking cookies are being detected after I run a manual quick and full scan?

After being out the country for just under a month, my Norton UI was showing red as it does when being away for so long, I clicked the fix button and it did it's thing by updating and doing various scans till it showed green and good to go again. It was only after a few days I noticed that the last time anything was detected was 7 Dec 2017. Then 17 tracking cookies were deleted. Now with the internet and games I play there should have been at least a dozen or more cookies to be detected but nothing.

I have gone through all my settings and they appear correct. Last night I ran the NRNR (Remove and restore) and tried again with a scan and again nothing was detected which I find very strange.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know. All background tasks appear to run ok

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

My suggestion:

Don't rely on Norton to remove tracking cookies, Norton is unreliable when it comes to cookies.

Blocking third party cookies in your browser/s takes care of most tracking cookies.

Use CCleaner to clean or keep cookies.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

Hi Krusty,

I used 'SuperAntySpyware' and that detected a shed load of cookies. This isn't right though that Norton doesn't detect cookies anymore. I have the same already on another pc at home where it doesn't find any either.

Happy Days.....

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

In your browser privacy settings:

1. Block third-party cookies (as Krusty13 mentioned)

2. Set cookies exceptions list to ALLOW sites that need to remember you, such as your banking site, etc.

3 Set your browser to clear all cookies when closing (allowed site cookies will be retained).  This lets sites set session cookies which are needed to go from page to page on a website without the site forgetting who you are, but clears everything at the end of your browsing session.

Use SpywareBlaster, which will populate your browser's cookies exception list with known bad sites and BLOCK them..

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

Hi SendOfJive,

I will have to look at Chrome more closely on how to do that but with IE it's easy enough in the settings. I may well give SpywareBlaster a go at some point, thanks for your input.

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

Just saw something interesting in the NIS forums from a guy suggesting that his tracking cookies stopped being detected by Norton after the update to Microsoft's Windows 10 version 1709. I just checked my installation of 1709 and noticed that my last manual quick scan where cookies were detected and deleted by Norton was two days before this update arrived. Since then, as explained earlier in this thread, mine have not been detected since?

It would be interesting if anyone out there has noticed the same thing re tracking cookies suddenly not being detected after installing the last big windows update!

Brummie, install it now. As SOJ says, it's an extra layer of protection.

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

Hi F 4 E,

I'm more concerned really as to why Norton has suddenly stopped finding any tracking cookies from my PC after all this time when it was working ok? Indeed, last night I was at my sons house and while doing something on his desktop pc I had a look and noticed his NS didn't find any for about three months or so. Something is certainly amiss here.

I am with brummie. Either the feature is not working properly and  needs fixing or Norton should clearly inform users that this feature is not anymore available, i.e. it has been eliminated from a current version without informing the users.  I don't see why users should install a different programme to do what Norton should instead  do.

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

My point was that there are multiple back up options for the things that Norton doesn't detect, such as MalwareBytes, SAS, Zemana and others.

As to whether Norton still looks for tracking cookies, is something that needs to be answered by someone from Symantec.

Re: Tracking Cookies Suddenly Not being found?

FYI, HitmanPro latest version included a fix for Edge and IE cookie detection.
