First thing to do is run Live Up, then restart your machine.  repeat until no more updates are available.  Next, if that doesn't solve the issue, click Help > Get Support.

Hello Top

Is this with the new update to version 22.17.2.46? I believe in Krusty's haste, he typed Live Up instead of Live Update. Hope you don't mind the correction Krusty of the typo.

If you don't install the browser extensions for Norton, the browsers will complain after about a week. Norton wants you to install some of the extensions. The browsers have become more fancy in order to try and prevent malware.

Have you gone through Norton Settings to see if Settings are set to Default (set to your preference).
Have you enabled n' updated browser extension(s)....just to see.
Are you seeing: red pics below are not related to browser extension disabled.

This is very concerning.  I have SafeWeb disabled in my default browser of Firefox because it degrades performance (although not as badly as with earlier FF versions).  And further because, as of sometime last year, SafeWeb no longer even offers site safety icons in Google Search results in Firefox, as it does in other browsers --  you actually have to open the suspicious page before you are warned about it, greatly diminishing SafeWeb Utility.  (And using Norton/Ask instead is not even remotely close to an acceptable alternate.)

So am I to understand that If in 22.17.3.50 I choose to keep NS's Firefox add-on for the informational (i.e., *not* security-critical) SafeWeb turned off, I will see a red tray icon continually?   Instead of knowing, as in the past, that the red is indicative of something significant that needs attention -- such as a program malfunction requiring attention, or tardiness in running LU or Quick Scan?  If that will indeed be the case, and there is no way to set an "ignore," that's bad.  I sure hope the writeup bjm_ linked to simply fails to mention an ignore option/method...

Guess, I need to uninstall Safe Web extension in my default browser to see Red tray Icon.

Maybe, on fresh Norton install and not installing Safe Web extension in default browser....then tray Icon will show Red.  IDK

Re: tray icon is now red

My result differs from both of you, and seems kind of odd.  I have a secondary pc where Chrome is the default browser.  So for testing purposes I changed its default to Firefox (60.7.2esr), and Live Updated NS to 22.17.3.50.  NS tray icon stayed green.  I then went to check the Firefox add-ons to ensure the SafeWeb icon wasn't enabled, but there was no SafeWeb add-on shown *at all* anymore.  Several reboots, still no SafeWeb add-on there, period, and the tray icon is still green.  The add-on *is* still there in Chrome.

Topopurim47, is the red your icon shows the same as the usual "something's wrong" symbol, i.e., red circle with white X in it?  If so, again I agree that's not good...pretty much eliminates the value of the red-icon warning.

Re: tray icon is now red

OK, I clicked "Internet Security" on the main UI, and it said "Not Set Up" for Firefox.  So I clicked "Set Up Now" to add Safe Web to Firefox.  That caused the Firefox Safe Web Add-On to come back.  I disabled it (in Firefox), and then for good measure closed everything and rebooted.

When  back up, the UI Internet Security section was back to "Not Set Up", but the tray icon is still green. BTW,  Settings/Advanced/Browser Protection is set to On, as always on my machines.

So I'm glad to see that outcome (although I'm curious as to why the blog post suggests the icon should have been red, especially before I "Set Up Internet Security), although the OP's issue remains unsolved (unless _bjm's fresh-install-related theory proves out).

Hi @Ardmore
Curious, do you have more than one Firefox profile?
....and I'm Firefox 67.0.4 not Firefox 60.7.2 ESR

Re: tray icon is now red

On the machine where I was doing the testing, I only have one Firefox profile.  (On my main machine I have two profiles, under different Windows 7 User Accounts and used with different Firefox versions -- the sole purpose being so I can still use the incompatible-with-Quantum Scrapbook add-on occasionally.)

Re: tray icon is now red

Okay, I was wondering whether Safe Web extension had trouble registering in a Firefox profile when user has more than one Firefox profile.

Norton Safe Web browser plug-in is designed to help users identify malicious websites. Your browsing session is not protected with the protection offered by the Norton Safe Web Plug-in. You can ignore this if you dont want this additional protection layer by clicking on "why fix this?" link and you will find an option to "Ignore".

The tray icon and the Main UI will indicate the risk ONLY if the "Safe Web" Extension is disabled. Its not applicable to anyother browser plug-ins offered by Norton.

Hi rockfort:

If the user wants to leave disable (or even uninstall) Norton Safe Web) why not change the label of the "Why Fix This" link below the Fix Now button to "Ignore This Warning"? Norton could still show the user a pop-up explaining the potential risks of disabling Norton Safe Web and give them the option to proceed (i.e., change their protection status back to green / okay without enabling or installing NSW) or cancel the action.

It would never occur to me to click a link that says "Why Fix This?" in order to disable this warning, and it looks like Norton is deliberately making it as difficult as possible to disable/remove this NSW extension so they can scrape our browsing history off our computer and resell that information to third-party partners like Ask.com  and Yahoo.  There's a lot of Norton customers who don't like their "non-personal" data being shared with these companies and don't want NSW installed in their browser.

Well, regarding "rolled out in throttled manner" @rockfort ....since, I'm Norton EAP.  Seems to me like I would have seen "this feature" ahead of @Topopurim47.
