I set up in windows task scheduler to run a Antivirus scan at 01:00. When it ran I got the message. Scan Canceled There are no items to scan. Any Help?
What Norton product are you using and what is the full version number please? Do you have any other real time security programs installed?
Norton Security with backup
Version = 126.96.36.199
Have you gone over the settings in the program? You can schedule your antivirus scans right in the program. You don't have to use windows task scheduler for that. Please go to Settings>Antivirus>Scans and Risks>Computer Scans>Full System Scan>Configure. That's the place where you can set up your schedule of scans.
It looks like floplot got you headed in the correct direction, dependent on what you are looking for with your Full System Scan. What do I mean? I do not schedule any Full System Scans, only because I do not feel I need my entire computer scanned. I have a "Recovery Partition" (D:\), which I do not desire to scan on a recurring basis, nor do I desire to run certain automatic tasks when I do a Full System Scan. Specifically I do not desire disk optimization to run with every Full System Scan.
To that end, I use the Custom Scan Option available from the Security Tab > Run Scans > Custom Scan > Go > Create Scan. From there you can select what you desire to scan - in my case C:\ (I do not include D:\ as mentioned above), then you can continue to select the frequency and time of the scan and also the Scan Options. Also I have gone into Settings > Task Scheduling and I have elected to uncheck Disk Optimization. At this point, while you are there, please read the Text at the top of this page to see that those tasks selected will be performed with your automated tasks. I am not sure if that really needs to be unchecked or not as it does not mention Custom Scans? I do know that if you leave Disk Optimization checked, it will be performed when you run a Full System Scan - which once again I do not want it to take forever.
Now all that said, you may desire to include or delete different options, but I just wanted to make sure you were aware of your options.
Disk Optimization does not run when my Automatic Full Scan runs every week at a certain time when my computer is idle. I notice that the optimization runs after a program or a update is downloaded. Scanning my 3 drives takes about 15 minutes. Perhaps it doesn't run though because my C drive is a SSD drive. It knows not to run that often.
Thanks everyone for your help. These comments solved my problem.
