updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com timed out

In the Event Log, I see several times a day Warning, Event ID 1014:

Name resolution for the name updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Any idea why that would appear ?

Re: updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com timed out

Hi Davec33

All I can tell you from the description above is that it appears that none of your DNS server (I assume you might be using your ISP DNS server or public ones such as opendns, googledns etc) was able to resolve an IP for the specific Host. Using opendns server, the domain should resolve to

Name:    updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com
Address:  143.127.102.87

You will be able to check if your current DNS resolves this domain by performing "nslookup" using cmd promt

C:\Users\test>nslookup updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com
Server: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com
Address: 143.127.102.87

Re: updatecenter.norton.com.ntn.symantec.com timed out

Hi NewUser,

Yes, I was using my ISP DNS

I changed to Google DNS (8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8) and the Event ID 1014 warning went away.

Thanks for your reply.
