v2Client

Hello

Are there others who have a daily issue with v2Client? This is a daily error that shows up in the History Logs under Norton Error Reporting. It shows up some time after a scan is completed. It shows up once a day It says it is a High Severity and 5 files are listed. It gets submitted every day. No error number is given. Get Support under Help doesn't fix it. This has been going on for a few weeks now. Scans seem to be running OK.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: v2Client

Searching for v2client, I cannot find much that might be useful. Only thing that pops up that might be related to you is for v2gaming. As you are a gamer, could this be related to what you are seeing?

Search results for 'v2gaming'.  https://www.google.com/search?q=v2gaming&oq=v2gaming&aqs=chrome..69i57.2...

Re: v2Client

Hello peter

I have never heard of v2gaming. I don't use Twitter, but I could see that they use @v2Client. I haven't done online gaming on my computer now for a few years. When I did play, it was 3 game mainly which came out about 20 years ago. Of course there were some newer maps. These 3 games were based on the Unreal Engine. Since you aren't a gamer, you probably don't know what I am talking about.

This error shows  up a few hours after a virus scan. What bothers me is that it is a High rating Error and that it involves 5 files. None of those files have any thing to do with gaming. This seems to be some sort of Norton error. The Module name is v2Client which was created in Sept. 2018. I'm not getting the error for that long though.  It mentions Norton files.

Thanks for trying peter

Re: v2Client

Hello. Thank you for your useful thread. I experienced this problem, too.

Not only this one; but all of these below:

NPCTray, cltLMS, v2Client, cctFW, AVMail, SNDSvc, SymRedir, csdk, asEngine, QBackup, SymHTML, NCW, avModule, NumGui

I found these modules' error reports in my Norton's History.

I don't know what exactly are these errors; but most of them have High Severity.

As you mentioned, I also experienced these after scans most of the times and sometimes in System Idle Times.

All of these were already submitted to Norton as I saw in the logs.

Please inform one of Norton's employees (programmers) to see this and check these errors and fix them in the next version.

Hello Pitbull

I'm still waiting to hear from Norton. Perhaps try Norton Support?

Re: v2Client

Hello.

Mine is not daily. It usually occurs once a week. Not only v2Client; but all of those I already wrote their name.

Please ask Norton employees (programmers) to fix all of them if you have any connection with them.

I'm still waiting for a response from you (floplot) or any official Norton employee!!!

Thanks.

Re: v2Client

When you are seeing these Norton Community Watch entries in Norton History, you also have to check in Unresolved Security Risk and Resolved Security Risk. If you do not see detections listed there on the same schedule you are seeing the NCW entries, your system is not at risk. It could just be that NCW has not yet been able to get the information to Norton. I have seen NCW entries in the past noting that there were pending submissions.

Hi floplot:

If you are referring to High severity errors for v2Client that show up in the security history under Norton Error Reporting, and not Norton Community Watch, my understanding is that these logs are captured when there are errors within the Norton product itself (e.g. for Norton processes like nortonsecurity.exe) and have nothing to do with data collection by Norton Community Watch about potential threat risks.

From the Norton for Mac support article Error Reporting (sorry, I couldn't find similar details in a Norton for Windows article):

"The Error Management feature also creates a detailed report of all errors your Norton product encounters and submits the crash report to Symantec for further analysis for the purpose of improvement. The detailed data report gathers the following information about your computer when your Norton product encountered the problem:
    - Operating system version
    - Hardware information
    - Data from the files or folders that are opened when your Norton product encountered the problem

Symantec collects this information to evaluate and improve the product effectively."

I normally have Norton Community Watch and Detailed Data Error Collection disabled on my machine, but after reading your post I re-enabled both those settings (my Settings | Administrative Settings | Norton Community Watch | Detailed Data Error Collection is currently set to Ask Me, not Always).  Since 05-Mar-2019 I've seen a few Info Only entries logged under Norton Error Reporting but none that have a High severity. It might be relevant that I use Norton Security v22.15.1.8 on a Vista SP2 computer.

Re: v2Client

Hello lmacri & Peter

v2Client is NOT seen as part of Norton Community Watch. I don't believe they are security issues, so don't need to check out Solved Security Risk and Unresolved Security Risk. I do know this has nothing to do with malware so won't be in Norton Community Watch. I know that just collects information about products and parts of programs that are in your computer.

Yes, they have to do with product risks which are high risk errors from Norton Error Reporting. They all list as being submitted daily. Get Support under Help does not fix anything.

Since I know it has something to do with a part of Norton Security with Backup or perhaps a part of Core itself.. Core uses Norton Core Security Plus, but there is no separate security program for it. I think that the 5 files that are listed are not malicious ones, but are some how connected with this v2Client. There are no errors doing the scans as far as I can tell but.It seems to have something to do with the actual scanning  since it appears after the scanning, only once a day when I have more than 1 scan a day.

I think that this needs the attention of a Norton Employee or someone who can contact the Norton Team. I was asking to try and find out if this was perhaps a more common problem than for just the 2 of us. Since it's just the 2 of us, I don't think Norton will do anything to help.

I would try a reinstall, but I have had similar product errors and reinstalling didn't help at all. I still had the same errors after the installation. There is no crash report, but there is way too much to capture in a snippet..

Thanks for trying to help Peter and lmacri.

Re: v2Client

lmacri:
...Since 05-Mar-2019 I've seen a few Info Only entries logged under Norton Error Reporting but none that have a High severity...

Hi floplot:

Sorry, I have to make a correction to my previous statement.  When I re-checked the details of my Norton Error Reporting submissions, I discovered I have a Norton Error Report logged with a severity of Critical (csdkprod) or High (SymNeti / SymNetDrv) about once a day even though the severity shown <here> on the main Alert Summary says Info Only.  With the exception of 06-Mar-2019 @ 1:45:26 PM, there is always a Norton Error Report with a Low severity for Norton Commmunity Watch (ncw) logged with an identical date/time stamp. My best guess is that my local client often fails to make a connection to the back end Norton servers during an attempted Norton Community Watch submission and simultaneously creates a Low severity error report for NCW and High severity error report for SymNeti / SymNetDrv.

Here are the Date & Time, Severity, Error Code, Module Name / Component Name from the details of my Norton Error Reporting since I re-enable NCW and Detailed Data Error Reporting on 05-Mar-2019:

06-Mar-2019 8:48:15 AM  Critical  0x800B0101    csdkprod / csdkprod
06-Mar-2019 8:48:15 AM  Low       0x8007053D    ncw / ncw

11-Mar-2019 8:47:02 AM  High     0x42BD1           SymNeti / SymNetDrv
11-Mar-2019 8:47:02 AM  Low      0xC0000BBB   ncw / ncw

*** No error report logged for NCW on 06-Mar-2019 @ 1:45:26 PM

Someone from Norton will have weigh in on this, but if your High severity errors are always related to v2Client then my best guess is that your Norton product is having some sort of a problem making a SSL/TLS connection to their back end servers.  For example, there might be too much traffic on their network when Norton is trying upload/download updated definitions or other files from the "cloud", or perhaps there's a glitch with the OpenSSL open source software that Norton uses for communications between the local client and their back end servers.  It's unlikely these High severity errors actually pose a security risk to your computer, but outdated versions of OpenSSL have been known to cause problems with Norton in the past (e.g., see the 2014 support article Norton and the Heartbleed Vulnerability).

Re: v2Client

Hello Pitbull

Get the latest Norton update 22.17.0.183 and see if you get the v2Client Error after a Virus Scan. Please let me know. I just got my update, so too late today to check if it's fixed or not.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
