Vault "timeout" using Firefox

Norton Security 360 with Identity Safe: Using Internet Explorer, my Vault stays open until I manually close it or reboot the computer.

Using Firefox, I thought it was annoying enough that my Vault only stayed open until I exited Firefox, but it seems to be worse than that. On a number of occasions, I have discovered that my Vault got closed after a day or so, even though Firefox was never closed. Is there some timeout default, or is this a bug?

Re: Vault "timeout" using Firefox

Hello @tngordo,

Are you using Firefox version 48 or higher? And have you ran Norton live update bringing your version to 22.9.1.12? Also have you tried opening the Norton dashboard and opening "help", then on the left select "Get Support" which will auto scan your install for issues?  Please note that your local vault WILL close itself upon every shutdown of your device.

Here are two articles related to a similar issue with Firefox which may give you some insight and options:

I believe this is normal behavior. My cloud vault has always been like this with Firefox.

Yes to both (Firefox 51.0.1 Regarding the local vault, I'm not aware that I still have a local vault. How would I access it?

Last but not least; it looks like the person who posted after you believes this is normal behavior. It would be interesting to know how many hours it takes to be normal. It's hard for me to say because I routinely shut Firefox down and restart it once a day due to memory accumulation.

@tngordo You can open your local vault by doing so on the toolbar in your browser vice the Norton dashboard. Secondarily, I have never used Firefox due to the vulnerable aspects of using it. Have you tried opening the Norton dashboard and opening "help", then on the left select "Get Support" which will auto scan your install for issues?

Conflicting information. Firefox never closed for a day or so, then you close it daily?

Are you leaving your computer on 24/7 or does it sleep or hibernate? The vault will close if the internet connection is lost, as when the computer goes to sleep.

You cannot use a local vault with Firefox. It is possible to have both local and cloud vault on one computer, but those that do will know about it because of the wrangling we have had to do over the last few years to be able to do it.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Vault "timeout" using Firefox

With Firefox, the vault will close every time you close Firefox even with the internet connected.

The timeout seems to be about 8 hours of inactivity, but not positive on this.

Re: Vault "timeout" using Firefox

Peter, I admittedly was imprecise with my words. What I should have said is that on a typical day I have to close and restart Firefox due to memory usage, there are days that I may not use the Firefox session either because I am using other programs or I might not even sit down at the computer. It is on those latter occasions that Firefox will remain open for more than 24 hours, and on at least some of those occasions I have discovered that the vault had gotten closed.

Thanks for clearing up that there is no local vault with Firefox.

Last, but not least, I have turned off sleep and hibernate for my computer, because on more than one occasion I had sat down at the computer to see the power light with an orange color, meaning sleeping, and I could not wake it up, forcing me to power it off, losing data.

I see that another poster (Joe?) says that he thinks this vault timeout is somewhere in the vicinity of 8 hours. I suppose I could test this by leaving Firefox open intentionally for longer than that amount of time, but I don't know if it's just being open for 8+ hours, or if it also involves no vault activity (logging on to web sites, etc) for that amount of time.
