Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

Hi there,

One of my pages loads very slow when the "Norton Safe Web" Google Chrome extension is enabled. Despite the fact that I just got it verified by Norton.

With the extension enabled, walkwithpath.com loads in approx. 18 secs, and without it in around 7 secs.

What can I do to ensure that potential customers will get a good experience?

Re: Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

Hello Peter

Have you cleaned out your temp files and caches? Norton does scan your website each time you go to it. Your customers may be running different browsers and different security products.

Thanks.

Re: Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

Hi again,
After cleaning both temp files and cache, the result is the same.

With Norton Safe Web: 17 sec
Without Norton Safe Web: 7 sec

I am aware that others use other security products - but I'd expect that it at least work fast on the one I have chosen!

Do other pages on your site load quickly? If so, you might want to look at the code for that one page to see what is different. Do you have ads on that page? Norton would have to check those to ensure safety.

Re: Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

When the first page has loaded after a looong time, navigation to other pages are fine.

And we do not have any ads.

I would really like to know why enablelling of "Norton Safe Web" causes this, and how to awoid it!

I just tested it on another Win10 computer with the same setup - and also same result A colleague with and Apple computer, did not have problems.

Re: Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

Hello Peter

Safe Web will slow down a bit when you first gets to a website." It analyzes the security level of websites that you visit and shows if the websites are free from threats. "

Once it checks the first page, then it speeds up, so it looks like it might be by design. Does this happen when you go to other sites or just your own?

Thanks.

Re: Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

Hi floplot

I was wondering what code is on that first page that might cause a slower loading. If there are lots of elements or links that Norton needs to check, it may cause a slowdown on that page.

I'm not a web coder, so just thinking out loud.

Re: Very long loading time with Norton Safe Web extension

Hello peterweb

I'm not a coder either. I have no clue about how Safe Web does it's analysis. I got the idea from that link I posted above. I was pointing it out to the O/P who is Peter K. There is also more information about Safe Web on the Related Links listed on the bottom of the Link I posted above.

The Source Code provides all the links that are used in the website. I would imagine that it might check out those links also. I don't know really what they check in the Source Code other than the link that is required to have the site verified. That's about all I know about coding. A website does need to be checked over before it determines if the site is safe or not. If not Safe, then the blockage would appear. That must take up a few seconds of time so to me, it  would make sense for t he scan of the first page of a site would cause some additional time which isn't needed on the other pages of a website.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
