Web Backup Crashes Norton

I just purchased a 10 device license but I'm getting crashes on both systems I've installed Norton Premium on so far when trying to setup the Backup service. Both systems are running Win 10 Pro 64 bit. Anyone else experience this or am I doing something  wrong ? I'm trying to exclude most of what is being listed for backup. I just need a few files backed up. The crashes have happened after selecting "Save Settings". Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you see any error messages when Norton crashes?

Re: Web Backup Crashes Norton

Yes it was a generic Windows error message. I didn't pay any attention to the wording. I have managed to get two of the three systems I've installed Norton on so far backed up after some effort. On this system it wanted to back up almost 1.5 gigs, most of which are not personal files. I started the Backup process, canceled it and then it would allow me to exclude all those files and folders from the Backup set and the backup did finish without a crash. The other system is a few days old re-installation of Win 10 so there wasn't much to back up so I just let it backup without any exclusions. It appears that starting the process (which requires another entry of the password) before trying to exclude file and folder locations is the secret. I'll try on the third system tomorrow and I still have three more systems to install Norton on so we'll see how it goes with them.

Good news so far. Let us know how it goes with the last system.

One other thought I had. Did you have another security program installed before installing Norton? If so it could have been involved with the crashes you saw. If you did have some other software installed, did you fully remove it with the removal utility for that software?

Re: Web Backup Crashes Norton

Thanks. I decided not to do backups on the other systems. 25 GB isn't much when you spread it out over several devices and I don't really need to back up anything on those system (that's not already backed up elsewhere). Yes I always uninstall any other security software before installing any new software.

I'm having an issue with one system not showing properly either in Norton Studio or the My Norton page. It shows as active on the system itself but it's not seen in My Devices. It does show as Active in My Subscriptions. Any idea how to get it to show in My Devices ? Thanks for your help.

Re: Web Backup Crashes Norton

I did find this response on another thread: "Go into your Norton product, and click on Settings - Administrative Settings. Scroll down to and be sure you have the setting for Remote Management turned on".

However I am unable to get the switch to turn from the Off position to On. No amount of clicking and dragging will move the switch. Sorry to have two issues in one thread but I didn't think opening a new one was a good idea.

I'm not familiar with Norton Studio. I did install it once, but personally, I found no use for it. I can get pretty much the same information from my Norton Account online.

On the device that is not showing, open Norton Security. Click on Settings - Administrative Settings, and scroll down to the Remote Management. Be sure that is turned on. Then go back to the main Norton screen and click on Help - Subscription Status to have your system sync with the Norton servers.

I see our posts crossed over time.

One thing you can look at is to see if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If so, it can cause issues with Norton and other software that require a complete shutdown to update running system files. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

If the Remote Management setting is not available to you after restarting your computer, you may need to get a fresh install of your product. Try getting a fresh install of your Norton product using the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.    www.norton.com/nrnr   Be sure you read the before you begin section, and run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

Re: Web Backup Crashes Norton

I've been thinking of doing a reinstall. If I do I'll use the Norton Removal tool. Thanks for the advice.
