Keep getting popup notice that says I need the Norton Chrome extensions for security purposes. Is this put out by Norton, and should I get it?
Hello Robert. This article will explain in detail what the extensions are and their functions. These are legitimate and from Norton.
You only need to add any extension you feel you need. Once you click on the pop up, it will bring up the web page in bjm-'s post. after you close that web page you should no longer see the pop up. There should also be a 'Do not ask again' link on the pop up that should also stop the pop up.
I don't want to get the extensions because the popup indicates that they can use and change most of my information on the Chrome browser. Why would I want to let the extensions have that control?
One example is for ID Safe to change the information in a blank username text box to fill in your login information. Another might be for Safe Web indications that get added to the end of a line of search results. The search results do not come into your computer with those, so Norton has to add it. And Home Page changes your browser's home page to the Norton Home Page. Again another change within the browser.
Of course if you are not comfortable allowing the Norton extensions to utilize these permissions. you are free to not use them.
Please see this link for new changes coming to Chrome browser.
