Why must I keep on telling NSwB I want to "Stay local"?

This is becoming a PITA.  I have selected that I want to stay local often enough!  Why must NSwB keep asking?

Symantec, my answer is NOPlease stop asking

Krusty13,  I do not see that "nag screen" anymore - I'l check the end of this month after I have NSBU installed for 30 days and see if I get it.

IIRC, we used to get it all the time, and then it would go away and we'd only get it like maybe once a month.  My NSBU install has both Local and Online and I have not seen it - I did an "over the top" from NIS with both Vaults and do not recall seeing it.

Sorry not more help!

Krusty, this is why they're called nag screens ! They're trying to wear you down.

Talk about PITA.

I just had a Norton Tech give me erroneous information that led to me being switched from the local vault to the cloud vault.  Don't change.  There is no way to change back to Local once you move to the cloud.  I'm very unhappy with Norton right now.

BTW... Norton support was apparently not aware that Identity Safe has a menu selection that allows you to Export and Import your data... Very disappointing.  Tech support has become very poor.

There is a way to get the local vault back.

Can you tell us which Norton product you have and what version  -  Support > About?

Also, which version of Windows?

Thanks.

Thanks.  I have Norton Security 2015, version 22.1.0.9 with Windows 7 Professional

There seems to be a problem with the download links to the older versions of Norton that would allow you to create a local vault.  I have asked Administrator Tony Weiss if he could see what's going on.  I'll let you know when I hear something.

Hi sdfine,

It appears there is some difficulties with the older version downloads as Krusty13 stated, but the older versions do appear to be available in the US.  Where are you located?

Just in case you are outside the US, there is another method to regain the Local Vault that was developed by user "elsewhere" and tested and verified by other users.  This is just an example of our users helping other users.

Please go to the following thread and have a look.  Post back with results or if you have any questions:

Re: Why must I keep on telling NSwB I want to "Stay local"?

sdfine,

The links appear to be working again now.

If you have previously had NIS installed you will need to downoad a trial of N360.

  • www.norton.com/nis12 or www.norton.com/n360s_6  and save it.
  • Download a copy of Norton Removal Tool  -  www.norton.com/nrt and save it.
  • Download a copy of Norton Security  -  www.norton.com/latestns and save it.
  • Export a copy of your ID Safe in CSV format for compatibility.
  • Uninstall NS from Windows > Add / Remove Programs.
  • Run the Norton Removal Tool > Reboot.
  • Install either NIS12 or N360v6.
  • Create your local vault.
  • Import your ID Safe data from the CSV backup you created earlier.
  • Install NS straight over NIS12/N360v6
  • Run Live Update, rebooting where required, until no more updates are available.
  • Open a Browser and open your local vault.  Watch for prompts to go to the cloud, or to sync.  DO NOT DO THAT because this will once wipe your local vault.
  • Enjoy!

Please let us know how you get on.

Thanks,
Dave
