Will Norton Security Standard support Opera web browser anytime soon

I have been using Norton Internet Security for many years. Seems it has now been given a new avatar as Norton Security with three flavors - Standard, Deluxe, and Premium. I am on Standard one. While I have usually used Firefox or Chrome for my surfing needs, I am tempted to use Opera web browser on my laptop, as it offers some key features like built-in ad blocker, and battery saving mode (a boon for laptop users like myself !). However, I understand that Opera isn't supported by Norton Security, and there isn't any timeline to include it either.

Hence, can anyone please update me if there is any workaround to make Norton Security to "support" Opera browser on Windows PC ? Else, is Opera safe to use without any security s/w ?

It is not the Norton product that does not work for Opera, it is the Toolbar add on that is not supported by Opera.

Your system will still be protected from malware while you use Opera.

Re: Will Norton Security Standard support Opera web browser anytime soon

@peterweb - Well, I noticed that unlike in FF or Chrome, when I download anything in Opera, it doesn't seem to scan downloaded file. Also, while I don't really need the Norton Toolbar, just that I rely on the Norton Safe Search (or the green icon it shows against safe URLs in Google searches. This is absent too. So, how exactly does Norton secure my browsing through Opera, even if Norton Toolbar is absent in it ? Please clarify. Thanks.

Personally, avoid 360's Opera. More? Opera server breach incident.

Thanks mate. Besides, Opera recently turned down a take-over bid by a Chinese firm. Any Chinese involvement in cyberworld would raise a red flag for me. So, besides the two link/issues you shared, I am not comfortable using a web browser not secured by Norton, which I trusted for many years now.

The way Norton would protect you is through the Sonar and Auto Protect features. Something may get downloaded and you do not see the download scan. But as soon as you try to access the downloaded file, it will be scanned and if malicious it will be dealt with.

The Safeweb features will not work with Opera, and if you really want/need this feature, you will have to forgo Opera.

@peterweb - Thanks for clarifying. However, due to recent security breaches and other issues with Opera web browser, I have decided not to download / install it. Perhaps, someday if Norton integrates its products with Opera, as it does with FF, IE and Chrome, I might consider ;-)
