Win7 / IE9 - Unable to: open my On-line Vault/ access my Norton Account. - MS updates to blame?

Problems as shown in the heading - amongst the many messages have been "needs to be sync'd", "server busy" as well as the usual ones.

Last time this happened, posters seemed to blame some massive Microsofte updates. There were some first thing when I powered up.

Are they to blame in some way?

Is anyone else having this problem?

Luckily my XP / IE8 desktop wasn't affected so I used the log-on details from that to access my laptop.

The latest:

when I open up IE9 or my mail and click on the Access Vault or Login Assistant, there's an asterisk to the left of the icons and a message "System Restart needed". What does this mean please? (I've restarted the PC but no change.)

Re: Win7 / IE9 - Unable to: open my On-line Vault/ access my Norton Account. - MS updates to blame?

Hi Taffy_078,

Is this a continuation of your previous situation ?  Has the Online problem ever been corrected on this system or am I correct in thinking that the previous occurence was on your XP laptop and this is on the desktop?

Please tell us which Norton product you are running (NIS I believe) and go to Support > About and tell us the version you are running.

I have not heard anything in regards to the latest Windows Update (Tuesday) other than one causing a situation with a blnk Folder Pane in Outlook 2013.

Re: Win7 / IE9 - Unable to: open my On-line Vault/ access my Norton Account. - MS updates to blame?

Good morning, Yank - nice to hear from you again.

The last time I had the problem, it was on both my XP / IE8 desktop and my Win7 / IE10 laptop. It resolved itself a few days later, which is why I felt that the problem lay between Norton & Microsoft. Incidentally the Access Vault icon appeared again this time - I've taken a snip of it and will try later to attach it!

I have had major issues with MS updates and looking at the Secunia website I'm not the only one, per this thread http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/14425.

Yesterday the problem was on my laptop - today my desktop is telling me to install the Microsoft updates. I'm hesitating, as you'll see from my Secunia thread http://secunia.com/community/forum/thread/show/14433 .

You'll also see that my NIS was v.20.4.0.4.40 and was out-of-date. I've installed v 21.0.1.3 on both PCs and the desktop is working fine - some great changes in the new version!

But I still can't open the Vault on the laptop. I have three separate Norton passwords - one for the Forum, one for the Vault and one for my Norton account. All have failed and my Norton accounts is now locked!

I'll now have to look at the link to the MS Forum to see what I have to do next - nothing, I suspect. The ball is in Microsoft's hands. I'll retry to access my Norton account on my laptop in and hour and will let you know the outcome. Cheers.

I can't post the snipped Access Vault.

I couldn't find a tree icon anywhere (as advised in that "How to post screen shots" link) so I tried using the Add Attachment command below the Post Reply window. That failed. An error message shows that the forum will only accept txt, log, lue and pdf extensions but my Corel hasn't got those!

Hi Taffy_078,

Thanks for the feedback.  Here's a screenshot showing the tree icon. Hope this assists you with the posting of screenshots. Note: Rich Text Tab needs to be selected to see it.

I had the same problem with my 3 Office 2007 updates (I just hide them and pressed on) and as I said was aware of the folder being blank in 2013, but they had no effect on my NIS.

You said the Norton Account is locked - perhaps you could select forgot my password next time you can get the log in screen for Norton Account.  Also please tell us how you are trying to log into your vault - via the Norton Tool bar (Open Vault - now changed to Vault is Closed before opening it).  Also can you go to www.nortonaccount.com and log into the account?  I do onot recall ever being locked out of the Norton Account?

Have you restarted the PC yet again? Sometimes it may take 2 or 3 restarts, depending on what updates are being installed.

Yippee! I've finally been able (a) to reinstall the failed Microsoft updates and then (b) open up my Norton Vault. The new NIS has meant that I've lost my Online log-in for the Vault. Mine's the local one. I'll check out the forum for how to get my on-line facility back and post a new thread if necessary. Thanks again, Yank.

PS I now have the tree icon!

Your online vault should still be there.

When you go to log in to the local vault, you should see a link to log into a cloud vault. It may seem to blend in and be a little difficult to see. I missed it at first.

Just be sure that you read all prompts involved with logging in. It is easy to lose your local vault if you do not choose to Keep Both.
