You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

There is absolutely no logic behind making a product harder to use.  Identity Safe was fine, now it literally takes 400% more time to open a secure website.  If you think that is annoying, you have to do this with EVERY SITE, so multiply that percentage.  What was wrong with logging in through your already running Norton software and using that?  Now the toolbar is the only way to use this product?  You people aren't the only company with password programs.  Not sure who is in charge, but they completely botched this "update".

I agree completely. What used to be a simple easy to use thing has become an absolute pain. I can achieve the same outcome easier by using Chromes in-built user and password program with out having to continually login to my vault every time I re-start Chrome.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I'm doing the free trial of 1password.  Of course Identity Safe's export doesn't fully work with it so importing all my passwords is forcing me to go through and clean out ones that no are no longer useful.  Just a pain.  Is Chrome password safe?  I shy away from using a browser password thing due to all the security flaws that pop up.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I've already paid for My Norton Security product, but I am not being allowed to use.

I've already spent over 2 hours with "support" on March 9 but the problem comes back when restarting my computer, so that was clearly time wasted.

You guys are going to lose a LOT of customers if you don't fix this soon ... don't you realize you are STEALING our time when we can't use the software we've paid for without unnecessary hassles?

Haven't you all heard of "quality testing"?! For this to persist for a week or more suggests little regard for your customer base.

Some of us ... and I'm guessing A LOT ... do NOT want to use Identity Safe through a browser extension!

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I also agree completely. As bad as I hate IE, Identity Safe won't even work in IE anymore. After 3 pop ups saying to update Chrome extension you can no longer open Identity Safe in IE. It is the same trying to open the vault within Norton Security main application. Having no control over Identity Safe in Chrome is crazy. You can't even change how the Log-Ins are sorted in Chrome, you are stuck with Alphabetically. Fix these issues immediately, I am tired of remove and reinstall to get around the 3 strikes and you're out.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

WTF Norton?  Is Identity Safe no longer supported on IE11?  When I try to login to my Vault through the IE toolbar I am told that I must update the plugin for the Google Chrome browser (which I never use but it is already upgraded).  I can't get beyond that annoying message to close the message from the window, I have to close IDSafe completely from the toolbar.  Not only a big miss from a usability standpoint but a huge QA miss.  Please fix it.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

Norton, what drove the change to Identity Safe?  Changes of this nature should provide process improvements for the customer and not added steps and frustration.  With the old version I could access my core financial and medical sites with no problem.  Now, not only do I have to sign in every time I open the Chrome browser, but several of my sites will not auto fill with Identity Safe. Also, an additional step is required on the sign in page by clicking on a dialog box instead of the previous method of auto filling. Once I find an acceptable password manager, I will also change my security software.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

Norton, you lost me as a customer because of this.  For years I have renewed Norton Security MAINLY because I loved (past tense) Identity Safe.  I religiously kept me LOCAL VAULT, but with the new FORCE to move to the cloud vault, and then this new DOWNGRADE of interface, I am OUT!  I will switch to one of the MANY GOOD password managers (some free) and switch to a new Internet Security software in the future just because of how you have screwed this up soooooo bad.

ID Safe was not killed. It was redesigned. And as you see from this, and other threads, no one seems to like it.

A request for some kind of announcement that explains the hows and whys of the changes has been made. It's up to Norton now.

If so, I will not renew the license, everything fails with Identity Safe, I no longer enter the password, I have to look at what happens, it is a disaster, it hurts that I have 260 days left before the license expires

I can only agreed with the other posters here. I don`t want to extend my subscription if not the Identity Safe is back on local program. It was much easier the way it was.

Why this change?

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I want the original back.  One click and you were safely on the website.  It is easier for me to just type in my password now but I don't want to risk it.  I like where the vault icon is but I don't like having to click multiple times to get to my requested website.

I agree. I loved Identity Safe which was the reason I use Norton for my anti-virus programme. Now I can't even edit my passwords. I wish you'd roll it back.

I don't want to spend the time to find another password manager but maybe will have to. So frustrating.

FYI You can still edit your logins. From your browser, click the ID Safe icon on the address bar. Then log into your vault. With the vault open, click the ID Safe icon again and then click on My Vault at the bottom left. Then scroll to the login you wish to edit. Click on the gear icon and then click edit.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I have used norton for years. They have done some stupid updates & still doing them. I have printed out all my logins just in case they do a cloud thing,no thanks. The mobile Norton for tablets, phones are just a back door for hackers. I had to uninstall from phone due to messages about krack virus & one saying that I had 4 viruses that was 28% in control & would destroy my Sim card ,etc. Went to Verizon to show them & I told the guy that phones don't really need  security since the os is too difficult to hack. We Uninstalled Norton & no more problems. Did the same with tablet. Norton keep your services for computers, stop trying to rip people off  & fix the problems that you keep creating. We have a busy life & we don't need a security company playing around with out media sources without fully testing the data before releasing to public. I don't think this will ever happen due to past experiences  with your stupid updates that screw up my system. I have to manually  open ID safe 2 times to copy paste login then password to websites that have logins that are 2 pages first asks for username then then second page asks for password. Norton told me last year they were working on this, yeah right, now they come out with this new ID safe that is really a pain. I will keep the virus software for computers, but I will just resort to my printed copy of the ID safe for backup. Will you ever learn NORTON SECURITY COMPANY when you by have a good product don't try to make it bettter, you don't know how & my name is not beta tester #1million. I don't use chrome even though I have it on all my desktops, laptops, tablets because I don't care for the bugs or the interface. So I think that covers all of NORTON FAMOUS ridiculous updates for a great product. Stop trying to control our stuff just protect them. Is Norton made in America or did they move somewhere they don't speak English. Makes you wonder.

Totally agree with everybody! I've been a Symantec/Norton user for years and this issue is quite annoying. FIX THIS ASAP NORTON!!!

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

The most annoying thing for me is that since the update, identity safe keeps putting in old passwords.  It's like the new update, deleted all my current passwords and now I am scrambling to right everything.  As soon as I finish that daunting task, Norton is being deleted.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

Thanks Peter Webb.

Often you have an expired password that requires change within the site and therefore needs manual updating in the vault. I like to update at that time when I have the new password to paste. Your much appreciated advice will allow me to keep doing that.

On other aspects of the update:

I have noticed that many of my existing passwords are no longer auto populating even though they are in the vault.

Opening the vault and copying the logon and then pasting into the site is slow but the extra annoying thing is the vault vanishes and you need to renavigate back to the same record to copy the password.and repeat.

Once done however the vault captures the entry as an update and seems to auto populate correctly after that.

It seems clunky and poorly finished. I'm coping with it but hoping the next improvement is better checked before rolling out.

Like many of the people on this thread I resent the extra time cost especially when I liked the way it worked before.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

The real meaning of something like Norton Security is protection for the computer(stopping or preventing infections).  The loss of ID Safe functionality  irriates or disappoints many of us who have learned to use it, since Norton ID Safe was nice.  The earlier suggestions to change to LastPass has  been a good recommendation; even so, we wish to have Norton ID Safe working the way it had, for ALL of the major browsers.  Both LOCAL and 'cloud'.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I could not agree more. This last change has rendered Identity Safe useless. I have already downloaded LastPass. If this is not fixed by next renewal I am gone. It was a big part of why I have stayed with Norton this long.

I feel a bit differently, as said in previous post.  I will likely continue with Norton Security but Norton Identify Safe is useless if not active properly for Chrome and Firefox.  Even if ID Safe is free, still it is useless the way it is.  All we can do is keep what is either in our online vault or our local vault (for those who still have it).  LastPass seems to be the best way to go for password management.

Reasons for keeping with Norton Security are that I have learned to make some basic use of it, and this has taken some time (years), and I have been learning from time to time, how to use the online Norton account.  Starting with any new or different Security & Protection system will again require time to learn.  On a few occasions, Norton has protected against some things it found.  Subscriptions cost some money, and I'm not willing to spend more than necessary, so I keep Norton on very very few machines.  AdwCleaner for a couple of them.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I'm with g_cafe_c.  I purchased Norton Security for protection against malware. The password manager was a feature bloat add on that used to work fine. I too have moved to LastPass because it just works.

I'm not throwing out a security product I trust to keep my system free from malware.  I just ignore the ID Safe functions.

I too have prepared for the exodus from Norton.   I have my sites/passwords assembled offline and am researching the other top-rated antivirus programs.  It's even more than the dis-functionality of this debacle, it's that it was instituted with little regard for the users and no preparatory message to the customer base.  I suspect that this is phase one of spinning off Identity Safe as another paid subscription.  I have already kept Norton in my company against the wishes of my IT Director but that too will change (he will be thrilled).  The same holds true for the half-dozen friends and relatives I have provided sysop support to.

Well the question is Who's done what ?

I have had the Identity Safe issue since 9th March have put my comments on the complete and utter sorry story of the downgrade Sorry Upgrade that Norton thought would make my experience so fantastic using Identity Safe. Its been something beginning with the letter F but fantastic is not my first choice of words as since the 9th March haven't been able to use it along with many others it seems and being told to remove Chrome to get it to work was the icing on the cake must admit that the meetings I have attended over this that one did cause a lot of laughter so thanks for that one Norton.

Back to "Well the question is Who's done what ?"

This Morning 25th March after a live update three updates installing. I tried Identity Safe and it opened from the Norton Control Panel tried from IE that opened as well so now for a login to a secure website nope no auto fill blank text fields.

But hey I can access my vault a start a least so my Norton Friends have you sent a sort of a fix out or have I just been lucky ?

If you have great if not how lucky am I :) but for how long is the million dollar question.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I have used Norton for many years as have most of Xfinity/Comcast customers being we get it for free. But what they did with this recent update is unacceptable even if it is free. The update came without any clear explanation of what is what. Cloud vault? Local Vault ? what changes, what goes, what stays how do they interact? Maybe these questions wouldn't be quite as critical if the update worked. I first tried calling Norton support who quickly took control of my PC and all they really did is verifiy everything was installed and set up properly as I already did. I tried to get some clear explanations from them as to what was going on and how things were interacting but the rep was too busy juggling multiple calls and just wanted to move on quickly. Then came the quick solution to dump Chrome if I needed Identity Safe to work. This didn't really help much. After spending a lot of time experimenting and getting questions answered here I at least understand how Identity Safe is supposed to work. I still have the Norton security suite installed but have moved to Google Smart Lock for my passwords as I evaluate other other security suites.

My next move is to try and infulence Xfinity/Comcast to provide a secuity suite other than Norton.

Is this issue involving ID Safe addon for Firefox? Regardless, what is the current working version for Firefox? I am currently using 5.1.1.2. I feel decidedly LESS safe with this new product.  Several times, I have tried to check my bank balance before making a purchase, and I gave up and left the house without accomplishing that goal.  If it is this S-L-O-W, is it really working?   As an individual customer, am I able to use the old product and ditch this one?  All I want is safe and functional.  No dancing bears, and no bells and whistles needed.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

Seriously? Norton expects us to 'stick with them' ...while they 'fix' a completely ruined & less secure (cloud) product? I loved, loved, loved the old vault - before the recent update. I hate, hate, hate the new version. Now, Customer Service sucks, too. I spent 2 hours with 2 different reps; (the first, who barely spoke English, hung up on me!) with NO fix. Will someone please recommend a better product with a reliable, stable & safe password manager! Thanks.

I spent an hour on the phone with someone in your ID safe dept. trying to resolve these issues: If trying to use Internet Explorer I get told I have to upgrade to Chrome. When I upgrade to Chrome (which I hate) every time I exit out of Chrome I have to go through another login procedure (under the old IE program as long as I hadn't shut down the computer all I had to do was open a new IE window and the login was still there.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

I had to uninstall Chrome to get my vault to work at all. I don't like chrome, don't use chrome and only had it installed on the computer for guest use. Forcing me to upgrade my chrome extension before being able to use my vault is insane. My default browser is IE and that is the ONLY extension that needs to be upgraded.

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

Norton Your Amazing Really!

My sorry story began on the 9th March with the infamous Chrome extension requires upgrading then a whole load of trouble Identity safe practically useless.  Upgrade Chrome but I have! Cannot access Identity safe in IE or Norton Control Panel Chrome will not fill in text fields you all know the problems this downgrade has caused and the amusement as well as in remove chrome and re-install really !

Now if my business had upset so many customers caused them so much grief and time wasted trying to fix all of the problems I had caused I would without any hesitation put on my Website an apology right at the top stating how sorry I was a notification that I/WE had caused an issue and are trying to fix it as soon as possible sent out notifications emails to my customers apologising for this and we are aware of the grief it has caused maybe a reduction in your next subscription.

But on the Norton Websites I have visited NOTHING no acknowledgements that jump out at you on the forum home page the same again only a few people with big smiles on their faces I guess they don’t use Identity Safe or are not Chrome users.

Yes Norton Your Amazing Really!

Re: You need to change Identity Safe back ASAP

Hi guys, I have found some solution.
Norton Identify Safe is included in commercial Norton products, but it was also available as free extension. Now it is not available:
https://safeweb.norton.com/
https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v122745738_EndUserProfile_en_us
I downloaded it few years ago and still have had the install file.
Today I installed this stand alone Norton Identify Safe (without uninstalling Norton Security of course).
After that in IE11 second toolbar Norton Identify Safe appeared (one from Norton Security and second from this free stand alone product). On IE11 toolbar I switched off the first (from Norton Security) and now it works!

P.S. I also found the install file on the web:
[Admin Edit: Removed download link for older version of Norton Identity safe from third party website]

Be careful running the stand alone version alongside a Norton Security product that has ID Safe. In the past, users would see unexplained issues with ID Safe that were related to having both versions installed at the same time.

Also remember, as shown by your link, the stand alone version is no longer available from or supported by Norton.

Yeah, that's bad.  It's a horrible and worthless program now.
Every time you close the browser you have to log back in, before you could do it from the running app ONCE and while your computer is on, it would fill the login info for you automatically.  This is GONE.  This was the single most useful thing about the program, it's functionality is gone.
